What does your dog sleep in?

We'll be picking up our new puppy in a few weeks and are starting to gather some much needed items. We'll have a playpen with his bed in it for daytime naps but was wondering if we should also get a wire crate for his night time sleep. I read that a crate with a blanket on it might help the dog sleep calmer and longer. Do you find that to be true?

What does your dog sleep in?

Thanks,
Andmmy

Congrats on the new puppy. We got two havs at the same time and they both sleep in crates. We have the crates in our bedroom so we can be near them. Some nights, we put them in bed with us but after about an hour, they want back in their crates.
We want to see pictures of your new baby !!!

We do plastic crates for nighttime sleeping (so they have a den-like setting), wire crates for travel in the car or motorhome (so they can still see out), and ex-pens for restricted play areas when I leave the house.

If I'm really lazy one night, they sleep in the ex-pen areas, but they all prefer their plastic crates in my room at night - and so do I.

I started both boys in wire crates in my room. Milo wound up in bed with me on night two and he's been there ever since. Bailey was trained (by me) to use his crate at night. He was really pretty good about going in and he'd conk out quickly. Probably foolishly, recently I've had him sleep in bed with us since I use pre bed time for quiet time and grooming, after which they each seek out a comfy spot to snuggle into. Obviously I wouldn't have either of them in bed if I felt there was a danger of wetting the bed.

Just Milo and me, and . . . Bailey makes three . . . until Ruby said, "hey, what about me?"

We have Guapo's x-pen in our room at night, although we've recently thought that we should have crate trained him for nighttime and may begin doing that soon. It's just more convenient for traveling. Besides, we want to take Guapo to a doggy camp next summer and they require that dogs go in crates when left alone.

Stella sleeps in my bed with me And when I'm out of town and my daughter babysits, she sleeps in my daughter and son-in-law's bed with them
When she was a baby, I'd arrange my pillows so that she was confined to a small space just above my head and I always heard her when she started to rouse and needed to go outside. It only took a couple of weeks before she could go all night without going outside and therefore got the run of the bed. It was too high for her to jump down from for quite awhile.

When I'm just away for a few hours, she goes into my main floor laundry room and sleeps. She likes it in there and I'll sometimes find her in there sleeping even when I'm at home.

My two sleep in our bed. We just bought a new mattress and went from a queen to a king so we are all comfy.

Oh Michelle - isn't a king bed delightful? Some nights I'll have the girls sleep with me and then MeMe and Buddy and Mr. Spice will join us. I remember many a night when my four dogs and four cats would join us on the king size bed - very cozy!
