the dreaded "zone"
i have the almost 5 years old havanese whose an awesome dog with the exception of 2 things, doesn't walk nice on a leash (my fault) and getting into a wierd zone. we were at a friends house last night eating outside, my dog was with us, friends have a 7 year old bichone. they get along great. we are all hanging out, dog were laying down, quiet, and then something spooked my dog. he was on a leash while outside, he bagan to pull me.
i got up thinking he had to pee, and he pulled me in a runny way all the way to the car on the drive way, saying let's go. i picked him up brought him back to the back yard and he ran to the back door, hunckered down, looking afraid. he wasn't shaking. something happened, don't know what but he got into this zone and it was impossible to calm him down. he gets very agitated, won't listen to any commands, pulls on his leash, if i pick him up and put him on my lap,he struggles to get off, etc. etc. etc. this has happend before, not sure what's triggered this response but when it happens, he goes to this mental place and that's it. we finally left and as soon as we got in the car, he laid down on my lap and calmed down.
i know the bichon didn't do anything to him, nor did anyone else. how do you handle these moments when you know somethings triggered a response but you don't know what it was or what he's feeling to help him thru it.
