Scare of my life

So today I had the scare of my life. I thought I had just about lost Bogart.

I was taking Bogart and Brando outside to the park after work. The street where I live is extremely busy with 4 lanes of fast moving traffic. Cars are typically doing about 60km/hr. As usual I was at the corning waiting for the lights to change to get across. I've been doing this with Bogart since he was a pup. While standing there waiting for the lights to change, I felt the leash go limp. I looked down and saw that the leash had come off of Bogart. Before I could do anything he trotted off into incoming traffic. I yelled his name and a car slammed on it's brakes and just stopped shy of hitting him. Heart pounding I ran after him with Brando in tow behind me. He ran into the next lane and as I ran towards him he ran. Just as he ran, a car drove by not realizing why the other car had stopped. He missed Bogart by an inch and side swiped me becaue I ran into the middle of traffic not even looking. If Bogart had not run at that point he would have been hit. Traffic from the other side slammed on it's brakes as well. At that point Bogart was frightened and started running between cars. I was just hysterical, heart pounding. Some guy ran up to me and told me to give him Branod's leash so I could catch Bogart. Finally with a treat in hand Bogart stopped long enough for me to grab him. At that point traffic had stopped in all 4 directions.

When I looked at the leash, it looked like somehow the collar had come undone. It's incredible how fast something like that can happen and how utterly helpless you feel. My hands were litterally shaking because I came so close to losing Bogey. I'm just so relieved that in the end everything was ok.

OMG, my heart was pounding as I was reading your story. Bogart definitely had an angel on his shoulder today. That is terrifying. Give him an extra hug tonight.

Yikes, I was shaking reading your story. Things like that can happen so fast. That was so sweet of that guy to stop and help you out. Hugs to you and your furkids tonight.

Whoa---that is so scary. I am glad Bogart is OK - but what about you? You were sideswiped by a car???? Are you OK? Or are the stiff drinks helping?

I hit the ground and have a very slight burn on my leg. Nothing much other than that. I'm drinking a glass of red as we speak.
