Question Rough play??

For all of the MH owners, how common is it to have your two havs really play rough? I am talking like wrestling here!! Summer growls and Sammy jumps up on her and away they go. We continuously have to "break them up" throughout the day. This has been going on for about a week now. And believe it or not, Sammy (the puppy) is just as much the instigator as Summer! And he always runs after her for more if she tries to walk (or run) away. His fav thing to do is to grab her hair by her mouth with his teeth (and not let go!!)

There still has not been much of a calm, likable interaction between them. I don't know how concerned I should be or if this is just part of having two dogs!?!? Either let me know I am in big trouble, or if this is all normal. Thanks!!!

You'll know if it is a true dog fight. Otherwise, I'd just let them play. They will figure out their own boundaries and determine who is the top dog by their play.

Mine play like they're fighting. They are growling, biting hair and jumping on each other but if one gives out even a slight wimper (seldom) they stop for a while. I'm sure an actual dog fight would be different.

Mine play rough...but stop before it goes too far...

They look at times as if they are hurting each other...but then Daisy starts it again. Their tails are up...they do growl at each other and bite softly. The tussle and throw each other all around and then play chase all over the house. They are playing. When Riki was almost a year and she was a 3 month puppy, I would stop him...but then she would jump on him.

He is very gentle in his roughness. If she makes a sound like he hurts her, he stops and then turns his belly up so she can pounce on him. He allows her to be the boss so she keeps chasing him.

Again, there has never been a real fight. I've seen that when we doggy sat another havvie. The two boys had a real fight...with teeth bared.

Mine have been doing this for over 1 year. I was told if you picked the dog who you thought was loosing (for me it is my little Roxie) and pull her out of the situation, when you put her back in, does she go back to the same level of play?

Daisy goes back in...

Daisy is just as much an instigator as he is. Although she will only play this rough with him. If other havanese want to play rough, she will not. She jumps on my lap. She will run around and play if they are sweet.

Riki is her only rough guy...for the rest of her havanese buddies, she only likes to play run like heck and back again.

Every time I pull him off, she pounces on him again...so I know she likes it or she wouldn't do it.

Havanese school

Sue Nelson used to have havanese training in her backyard. When Riki was a puppy, a couple of her dogs let him know who is boss and it scared me and him. But he never jumped on them again. They were just teaching him puppy manners.

Sparky who just passed away a little after Sue was always top dog in that yard, all the havanese let him be the big boss. There is a pecking order in the doggy world. We would never have let it get out of hand...Sue told me that he had to learn not to jump on the other dogs...and he did.

Daisy never had that issue. She was always docile and belly up, except around Riki!

My Roxie is afraid of many dogs, but not only will she wrestle with Brutus, she will instigate the fight. Let me assure you, it is not quiet!!!
