kaylie is a licker

her tongue seems to go non-stop, she even licks at the air.
it's not a favourite behaviour.

do we know why some dogs do this?

Sissy will lick us if she wants us to pet her. She will lick or paw at our hands.
We need more pics of Miss Kaylie.

I think it's just another way to explore the environment and surroundings.

licking has many meanings to dogs . It can be a pacifying behaviour, to people or other dogs., he may be communicating submission , could be asking for food as puppies will lick their mothers faces to solicite food. But sometimes it can be a sign of stress or fearfulness. Dogs will lick the air in the vets office or first day of puppy classes when they are stressed.

posh licks the air all the time and usually it's when I'm telling her how much I love her. I think it's how she "tells me" she loves me too. She'll does this for minutes on end while I'm holding her, petting her and talking to her.

if it's from stress then i hope she calms down with us soon. i wonder how long it 'normally' takes for a dog to acclimate to a completely new environment?

neither has eaten much since she came into her new home but they are eating and drinking enough to have healthy looking poops.

she does seem to lick more when i am petting her or if she wants to be pet. mugsy pushes at my hand with his head when he wants some lovin' so maybe she is doing the same with the licking.

don't worry Joe, just get her a shirt like I want to make for Posh that reads "Warning: Can't Hold My Licker."
