Crates that are MHS friendly.. :)

So now that I'm fully submerged into MHS..

...I'm trying to order a new Crate for Taylor. Right now Capote sleeps in my bedroom and I don't particularly want a room full o cages..lol. So I'm thinking of getting a larger crate that has a divider in it. My question is is do you think that the two dogs will be ok with this set up? Capote's never had to share his bed..and while there's a divider between them, I think he'll think his new friend is a bit close..? ..and vice versa with her as well..

I've never used a divider but it sounds like a good idea in a large kennel. Mine choose where they want to go when we leave the house. Usually Ellie nabs the extra large kennel and then sweet talks Lightning into it with her.

...ahaha...SCANDELOUS!!

I think for the first few months while they're still trying to get used to eachother it'd be best to keep them separated somehow.. that and isn't the crate like their own personal lil sanctuaries?? I don't want them to feel like there's another someone stealing their comfy place..

During the day they'll be left out in the kitchen..it's only at night that they'll be in the crate.

Mindy separate crates sound like a good idea especially since you may end up needing to do some house breaking with the new one. You can get some fabric crate covers and they don't end up looking so bad.

Mine just use the crate in the car and all 3 will go into the one crate. Not much room to move around but that is usually good in the car! It came with a metal divider but it is kind of a pain. I tried it once and you have to sandwich one dog in with the divider. If it is for sleeping, I would say it might be easier to get two crates. My friend with poodles stacks her crates and each dog goes to their crate. She also feeds in them so I think that is the trick.

I bet you are excited! Shopping time!

If you get one with a divider, will you be able to let them both inside or will you need to put one dog in, insert the divider and then put the other dog inside? If it is the latter, that will get old real fast.

Two crates in your room probably isn't going to be as bad as it seems, especially if you stack them. Can Capote jump? You can always teach him "up" and point to his kennel if you put his on top for him to go in at night. My older dogs all know the "up" command means to jump up into their crate or an area higher than where they are.

Ha ha - Amanda posted as I was composing my reply. Sounds like we're thinking along the same lines again.

kimberly- exactly! I tried it twice and decided someone will lay the smack down if someone gets out of control as it was a pain to put the divider in. Let's just say Belle is an angel when Dora is in the crate with her! I have seen some really nice crate covers too for the metal wire crates. I think petedge carries them now too.

My gf has crazy agility mini poodles and she says kennel and they all fly into their own crates. It is really cute and I need to video tape it next time I visit! I wish I could do that some days! Belle does like the crate more than ever now that it is used for traveling. She even walks into it once in a while and lays down in the house!

Mindy,

Does Capote have his own crate now or does he sleep in your bed? Sissy loves her crate and she sleeps with us, too at times. I have been thinking about getting her a bigger crate (DH is thinking about building her one) but am concerned it will upset her because she loves hers so much.

I probably would give them separate crates and butt them next to each other. Since Capote is getting a new friend it might not be a good idea to mess up his sleeping habits right away.

mugsy will not go into a crate and kaylie loves it.
i put a small crate w/o gate in the x-pen and that has worked well.
kaylie sleeps in the crate and mugsy sleeps in his bed next to the crate.
