havanese swimming lessons...

What a great day to go to the beach. A Monday Holiday. We took our friends with their new rescue (perhaps poodle silky terrier mix) back to the Trump Beach. We found an area protected by rocks so there was a swimming hole free of the pull of waves.

Riki and Daisy enjoyed swimming and also wanted to join us on the rocks where there was lots of sea life to enjoy...urchins, sea cucumbers, sea stars, and sea hares. The dogs enjoyed looking at the little fish...and run on the beach...and then home for baths.

Daisy and Riki running off the water in the sand. Daisy deciding whether or not to jump. Daisy swimming after her jump back to the shore.

Now it is Riki's turn...

And a few more moments in the sun...
Riki and I on the rock wall, Daisy watching us, Riki following Alana...watch Riki swim! He likes it!

Oh, how fun! I've taken mine to the beach. They loved it. BUT, I've never taken them someplace they could actually swim. I wonder if they'd do it? Did your Hav go right in?

anytime Julie, we will show you around!

Any time Julie, there are many havanese forum folks out here who would love to meet you! The weather is warm until November when it starts to rain and there aren't many tourists. We have a big house and an extra room!

hesitant because of the waves

They were a little nervous because last time the waves were strong. I think the dogs were scared...and I was too because I worried that the waves could pull them in. My husband is life-guard trained or I never would have let them in. They like to run along the shore, they like to swim...but they are not fans of running the waves. They save that for the labs to enjoy.

Today there were French Bulldogs running around like mad. Jack Russells seem to enjoy the water too. A maltese ran around on the shore watching. Riki was so good and didn't bark at any of the big dogs. Yeah! There was a daschund who swam in the waves trying to keep up with its owner. Now that is bravery.

The dogs want to be where I am, or else in the shade on someone's blanket. Good thing the folks there like dogs. Riki was on everyone's lap...

Just had a nice bath to get out all that sand. I hope the salt water relieves Daisy's itchies.

BOB - Best of Beach

Well one thing is for sure, they sure don't look havanese-show ready! But they are my little wet winners!

Thanks for posting some more photos! It's so cute to see Alana having fun with the havs too!

I wonder if Quincy can swim? We just have a river that moves pretty fast and I've always been afraid he would get away from me in the current. I'm a chicken to let him try it!
