Question Nature's Variety Medallions??

Daisy LOVES these. It's the first thing we've found that she hasn't become bored with after a couple of days. She is 5 months old. I need to get a current weight this weekend. We just went to two feedings/day. How are you feeding these? Just medallions? Mixed with some NV dry food? Do you rotate between dry/raw/canned? How many do you feed your hav? Thanks!

Are you talking about raw or freeze-dried? Lola gets Freeze-dried and NV Prairie Kibble. Total of one cup of kibble and one medallion reconstituted with water. 1/3 cup kibble in the AM, the rest at night. But she would eat anything, any time, anyhow. Lola is 13 mos and weighs 10 lbs.

Not that I am recommending this.... but I cook the boys medallions. Cash gets all medallions and a few greenbeans... split into two meals. Jasper gets half medallions half kibble usually at one meal as he won't eat breakfast. But I don't think you are supposed to feed raw and kibble at the same meal as they are digested differently. (I can get away with it because I cook the medallions.)

Again, I really don't recommend cooking, they lose some nutrition and there is some concern about the cooked bones... it is a long story why I do it.. and it has been ok'd by both my vet and NV-- but they are intended to be fed raw.

I doubt very much that you will be able to get Daisy to rotate with kibble-- once they taste raw why would they eat kibble... but maybe later once she is older and has stopped growing you could do kibble in the am and medallions at night. My boys didn't like the NV kibbles or canned.

My three eat the NV medallions - I feed them two meals of just medallions and free feed kibble . . . I think I only have one kibble eater. I have both NV Prarie kibble and Innova kibble. I think my kibble eater prefers Innova but he would probably eat anything I put down.

My eldest, Javi, is very picky . . . the medallions were the only thing that I could get him to eat on a regular basis. For the past four years he has eaten the medallions twice a day, the minute I put down his bowl.

I was at a holistic pet store in Florida last December and the owner convinced me that another brand of raw was better . . . I bought a bag and it was an enormous failure . . . I went back in the next day to get the NV and he actually refunded my money without even having the product to take back. Nice store . . . will always have my business when I'm in Florida.

One more thing . . . my guys like the chicken and beef the best . . . and I generally add a squirt of salmon oil.

Good luck,

Arlene

Lynda,

My Beamer eats the NV raw food (all different meat types..chicken/rabbit/lamb/beef/venison. It was the only thing we could ever get him to eat, so no, he does not eat the kibble or wet. He gets 2 meddalions per meal (4 a day). We also feed him Raw meaty bones..pork,beef necks..chicken necks..

Mine get the NV freeze dried sprinkled on their food. I give them Fromms dry food, with the medallions in the am. The Fromms with a tad of canned food in the PM. Its the magic thing with my picky eaters. I love Natures Variety.

Daisy is eating 3 of the frozen raw medallions twice/day. I need to drop by the vet's office and get an accurate weight. I keep thinking 6/day sounds like a lot, but we just cut back to 2 meals/day and she polishes off the all 3 in a minute or so. Plus she is still growing.... We also keep some EVO small bits down during the day...but I think she mostly "plays" with them, tossing a nugget into the air and pouncing on it.... I've only tried the chicken and the beef. She seems to like them both equally. I hate to buy a bag of rabbit and find out she hates it or something...but I wonder if there some NUTRITIONAL reason to rotate between the raw choices. I need to find a store selling the small bags of NV dry kibble. I haven't tried the freeze dried. Melissa - Do you add water and then sprinkle it on their food?

There is a very good feeding guide on the NV website to determine the amount to feed. They have changed it recently so that if you feed a mixture of kibble, canned and raw, you can determine the quantities of each.

I sometimes use the freeze dried when travelling . . . my guys like it better dry than reconstituted. I also use the freeze dried for treats.

Miss Paige & Mr Roman both love the NV Raw-I do rotate them about every four months into canned & then kibble just to give them a different type of diet. Frannie is on a special diet so she eats that and only that with a little treat now & then. I love NV and had a tough time while at Nationals with the food and feeding the "kids".

Any suggestions for where to buy Nature's Variety Medallions? I clicked on the "find a store" link on their website but there's nothing here locally (they have Instinct and Prairie but no raw medallions) and the few online sites I checked seemed to be out of inventory. I'm hoping someone might have a secret place to buy NV )
