Those of you who feed Pro-Plan, I have a ? for you

We had Princess on Nutro Ultra, she didn't like it, we switched to Innova EVO. EVO gave her horrible gas (we waited through a full bag), so we switched to California Naturals Lamb & Rice Puppy.

She itches all the time now... we thought it was from the weather, then the shampoo, but it's the food.

So, we're switching her again.

Unfortunately, we're pretty limited at what we can feed here.. and I know I read here that quite a few of you feed Pro-Plan.

We picked up a bag of the Small Breed Puppy for her, and plan on switching her over.

Do those of you that feed Pro-Plan supplement with anything?
Which kind do you feed?

I feed both the Beef and Chicken and mix it together. The chicken and rice is really what stopped Stogie from throwing up. So I put in the dried kibble, then sprinkle some of the Natures Variety freeze dried stuff on. Then I put a little grated cheese....

Jodi.

I just started switching Houston over to Pro Plan Puppy Turkey and Barley. He seems to like it. The itching doesn't seem as bad but I will see after a few more days when he is on Pro Plan 100%.

I did notice a Euk Sensitive Skin Food at the store but I didn't buy it because it was not for puppies. Maybe you can try that because Princess is a little older.

My vet gave us Nutri-Cal from the first visit. I think she was worried about him because he was so small.

Good luck with the itchies. I couldn't stand Houston itching so much and people thought he had fleas.......

Jodi, I was so frustrated with Jaspers itching- I broke down and got him allergy tested. - Guess what? He wasn't allergic to anything they tested for. But the purina pro plan chicken and rice puppy that cash came with seemed to calm the itching quite a bit. I didn't suppliment because he was eating it ---but when he wasn't eating I would occasionally give him a multi-vitamin made for dogs. I do mix both of theirs with a little (about a heeping tsp) of wet, I use evengers 100% meet (buffalo is their fav) But I have to say, when I switched from the pro plan to the california naturals lamb and rice-- cash couldn't handle it (had diahrea) but Jasper has never done better. I believe I am in for probelem eaters as cash has been on boiled beef and rice for his problem so of course Jassy got it too- It's going to be hard to get them to go back to kibble.

My vet suggested salmon oil suppliment for jassy's itching-- but it gave him the runs-- but I think every dog is different--- it's just trial and error. For Jas, I suspect flax was making him itch--- but there is no flax in the Cal nat puppy lamb. So that's not it for princess. Another Hav may take her mind off the itching --- that's also what worked for Jas. ha ha MHS(mutiple hav syndrome)

All this said--- I am going to try the cal natural again and the regular old innova- not the evo. This recall has me a little crazy and even though the pro plan is not on the list- I personally feel that all glutens are suspect (wheat and corn) and jassy's tear staining came back on the pro-plan- so we'll see.

See, the corn made me nervous with the pro-plan, as it's a no-no, and way up on the list of ingredients.

I may try the Innova and see how she does. The lady at the dog store told me to try the California Naturals Sweet Potato & Fish (I *think* herring?) - but we were bitten by the MHS bug.. and I would like to keep them on the same food, so I would like to have puppy food until Princess is a year old, and the pup is a little over 6mo.

My breeder is feeding Capote the Pro Plan as well right now, so that's what I got for him. We'll see how it goes, but if he's already eating it then it should be ok.

Sinatra has been on the cats version of pro plan for a while now and he likes it more than any of the expensive foods I used to buy for him like eukenuba, iams and science diet. And as long as he's happy I'm happy. If he wasn't he'd let me know..

Jodi - the other food that is supposed to be very good is the Artemis small breed puppy. Jasper wouldn't touch it though. you all do know about petfooddirect.com don't you. I'm going to try the pro plan small breed puppy. at least it doesn't have wheat. They woudln't touch the pro plan selects turkey (i think my dogs don't like turkey) good luck.

Yes, but we can't find it around here.. and I would rather get food locally, than have it shipped (at least, until I find one she likes and will eat!)
