Leaving in the Morning for St. John

We're hoping the hurricanes stay away and we have a great week.

We took this same trip same time last year and my beloved Yorkie, Tucker died while we were away. It was a total surprise, as far as we knew he was in perfect health. It was so sad to come home to a house without him.

Illogically, I'm feeling a bit nervous about leaving the dogs. Yesterday I felt like crying all day...in fact DID cry a lot of the day. It didn't occur to me until tonight that this might be why. It's crazy, but I think the body remembers even when we don't. I've been doing lots of talking to myself. Hedy was kind enough to let me leave the pet sitter her numbers. I've left contact numbers, vet numbers and lots of instructions. My pet sitter is a doll. She works during the day, but comes here during lunch and right after work and stays the night. Still, it's so hard to leave my furry darlings.

Aaahh, but vacations are a necessary and healthy part of our lives, right? St John will be wonderful, it always is...one of my favorite places on earth.

Sending good thoughts and love to you all!

Hope you have a wonderful time, Shelly!! You are right... vacations are a necessary part of life (for me anyway ). I'm sure Oliver and Ruby will be fine... it must make you feel lots better to know someone is just a phone call away though. Soak up some sun for me!!

Have a wonderful time. Your pet sitter will do a wonderful job with your little ones. You just relax and enjoy and look forward to the welcoming doggie kisses you'll get when you come home.

ah they actually do quite well

I posted something similar a few months back...and my dogs did fine. I think I missed them more than they missed me.

Your vacation sounds wonderful...and when you get home you dogs will be there waiting to kiss you like crazy!

And oh how I needed to get away. My friend who moved near the area we vacationed had a havanese, so I got my fix!

Maybe you will see some pup fish while you dive!

I didn't just get havanese, I got a lifestyle!

Thanks so much everyone! I'm headed for the shower and bed. I'm finally packed. Snorkel gear, spices, vitamins, the works! Clothes are laid out, the pet sitter's note is on the counter...I think that's it.

Hedy, I did tell Nicole she could call you anytime...thank you SO MUCH! I feel better knowing you are nearby.

Linda, I don't know about pup fish, but I've been reading that there is an outbreak of lion fish! I'm hoping they haven't made it to the Virgin Islands yet. They say there are thousands and since they are not native to these oceans, they have no predators and are reeking havok on the ecosystems. Apparently all the ones they have captured so far and DNA tested have decended from 6 fish that escaped from an aquarium during hurricane Hugo!!

I'll be praying for Libby and Kie and Django too. Of course all you guys in the hurricane's path have my thoughts and prayers too. May the angels be with you all.

I'll take lots of pictures! Unplugging the computer now! Stay safe and have a good week everyone!

Have a great time and the pups will be excited to see you when you get back and maybe you can find them a souvenir! I do have to say when you first said St. Johns, my DH's grandparents live in St. John, MI and I realized you were from MI. I was going to tell you to go to Uncle John's cidermill

Hi Everyone,
We're having a great time! I talked to my petsitter and the pups are doing fine, they adore her. My mom, who is 69 years old, has been joining us on our snorkels. It's so fun to experience it all brand new again through her eyes. We've seen some cool things over the last couple of days. Hope no one minds, but I thought I'd post some pictures of some of our favorite things so far.
First, my adventurous mom and me:

This hawkbill turtle was munching on some sponge encrusting a rock:

Then he came up for air right next to me!!!

I have to research, but I think this beautiful creature is called a Spanish Dancer. It's ruffled fins undulate like a Flamenco dancer's skirt. It was beautiful!

We were really excited today to come across a really cool moray eel!

Well, those are the best of them so far! We have three more days of snorkeling, so who knows what we'll find next! I'll post more when I get time if we get some good ones!
