Cool Suggestions for a nice professional cameraÖ

Hey all!

I am in the market for a good camera. I donít want a crappy one... I want a good pro camera... Long lens (attch the lens I mean), good landscape shots, good close up, fast, nice flash attachment, etc.

I currently own a Kodak camera and I hate it! I know Kodak was the first camera ever... but, I still hate the brand. Iím sure they have nice models out there somewhere. But I havenít found one.

A friend of mine owns a Cannon but I didnít have a chance to play with it when he was here visiting from NM. He goes all over the world and takes amazing shots. I also have a friend (Mary King) who has a really nice camera and for the life of me I canít remember what the brand is! But, I was able to play with it and take really good close up shots of the Havanese during the Specialty. I LOVED IT! But, I noticed the flash always has to be recharged, and will only hold its charge for a few hours. Same with the camera. And for me... I am one who can use a camera all day long. So, I need something that will last atleast for five-ten hours the min.

And I have a feeling I am going to spend a load of money. I donít have that much to spend (really I donít have any), but I want something nice before Westminster. So, if any of you know of anyone who does pro photography, or has a good camera they use as a hobby that they swear by, please let me know. I do want digital. NO 35mm!

And if you happen to know someone who is selling a lightly used camera, let me know too! Craigslist is a scarey place to buy things like this. You never know what your getting into...

Thanks

Personally I would go with a Nikon D40 with a good zoom lens. You have the ability to add a whole variety of lenses. If you want something more you could look at the Nikon D200 0r D300 which are considered great cameras for the more serious amateur photographer. You can check here http://www.kenrockwell.com/tech/recommended-cameras.htm or here for reviews http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/nikond300/

I should add I have a Nikon D40 and love it. I just got the VR 55-200mm zoom which is great.

Chances are if your parents never had kids...you won't either...

Sarah,
You might want to pm Melissa Miller(the forum owner). She is a professional photographer and I'm sure can direct you to the type/brand of camera you are looking for.

Okay, so I'm a pro photographer and I shoot with Canons. Why? Because at the beginning of the "digital revolution" Nikon wasn't up to speed, and now they are. So...you are going to get a lot of great advice for both brands and they are both wonderful companies with great histories in photography. I must say that all the other wedding photographers I know, who also transitioned into digital at the same time that we did have Canons. We even traded in our film Leica camera, and are still mourning that, for our four Canons. You can p.m. me for any suggestions and I will put my dh on as he is the one with all the camera/lens opinions. Melissa (Miller) do you shoot with Canons too? Just curious.
