Question Help, Tika chewed an ink pen on my carpet!

Anyone know how to get ink out of a carpet?
I was out for a while this evening and came home to find out that Tika had chewed an ink pen on my carpet.
My 13 year old daughter was so diligently trying to get it out, all she succeeded in doing was spread it around and make it bigger. I want to cry! I tried hairspray which helped some but there is still a very obvious spot.
My older daughter is having a house full of friends over on Friday for her 21st birthday. If I cant get it out I guess I will have to cover it with a throw rug.
Any suggestion or tips that have worked for you would be greatly appreciated , I am willing to try anything. I have read that Oxy-clean mixed with alcohol works, has anyone tried this? I am out of Alcohol or I would have experimented.
Tika has it all over the bottom of both front paws too. I will probably just let this wear off and slowly clip the stained hair.

If you used a carpet cleaner that had water in it you may have already set the stain. Ink is encapsulated. When you add water you release it. We use a solvent to remove ink from fabric. It keeps the ink encapsulated. Look in the phone book for a carpet cleaning supply store. Go there and buy ink remover. You need a wet dry vac. Pour the ink remover on the ink stain and hold the nozzle so it sucks up the ink from the carpet. It should be really quick. Unless you set the stain. This should do the trick. If the stain is set, you can replace a scrap carpet piece to the old stained carpet. I would recommend a professional to do this.

Magic BubblesAsker's Rating: Asker's Comment: Thanks for all the information. I didn't know a lot of that. I used soap and water on it at first so I probably did exactly what you said about setting the stain. I ended up using nail polish remover...I know sounds horrible but it worked really well. You can barely see it. It smelt bad though
I found somewhere else that they used the alcohol and oxy and it didn't work very well.

My 2 year old grandson painted a plate size place in my carpet years ago. We couldn't get it out either, but had a guy cut a piece of carpet from a closet to repair. It turned out nice.

For a stain that large I would call in a professional. Smarty has destroyed hundreds of pens. If i don't keep the office door closed, she is on the desk and gone with a pen. DH says one of these days I will learn. LOL There are products in the cleaner department of the grocery store grocery stores that will remove ink one is make by Carbona, Stain Devils # 3 Ink & Crayon remover.

Good Luck

Been there. I was lucky enough that it was on the front walk. Good luck with the carpet.

I've always used hairspray and OxyClean so you have both. I would try the hairspray again. It might take a few times to do it. The OxyClean also works well on those stains. Leave it on for about five to ten minutes after spraying and then sop it up. Don't rub.

Milo and Bailey both love to chew on pens. I have a bad stain on a beautiful french writing table desk. I can't seem o figure how to get that one out. Pity too because I love that desk.
