Our Read to Rover Day

Maddie and I had our first assignment in the Read to Rover program. It was a bit different than the way it usually will be. We usually will be reading with children with reading difficulties at a library or school. But ARF was participating in the grand opening of a local library and wanted therapy dog participation, so off we went. It was an outside event where children selected a book from the ARF table, then selected the dog they wanted to read to. The first picture is of a little girl going down the line of the 4 dogs there to see which dog she wanted. The second picture she's selected Maddie (how could she not!) and read to her. The 3rd and 4th pics are of a sister and brother reading to Maddie (usually the parent isn't present, but this was flexible due to the occasion, and the Mom was in love with Maddie). The last picture is just of some general loving the dogs got from all those present. Maddie did great, and even acted as if she was totally involved in the stories. We were there for an hour and a half, and she was totally relaxed and enjoyed it. I think we're really going to love this program!

Couldn't say it any better than that!

Chances are if your parents never had kids...you won't either...

Way to go you two! Of course she picked Maddie! I'm surpried they didn't all line up just to read to her. It looks like it was a lovely day being with Maddie and the children outdoors.

Oh, Jeanne.... kudos to you and Maddie! Such a heartwarming bunch of photos. Maddie looks happy as can be and I know she brought a lot of joy to the kids that read to her today. I worked as an adult literacy volunteer some years ago... it was one of the most rewarding things I've ever done.

I look forward to hearing about your experiences with this program.
