NEW BABY INTROS

You are all so great, I know I will get tons of help with this. DD is due in 3 months. Any suggestions on the best way to prepare the furbabies for the new arrival? Also, best way to introduce them to him. Thanks for any advice.

My SIL had a baby girl (Avery Lynn) yesterday and she also has two small dogs at home.
She actually took a baby doll, swaddled it and placed it in a bouncy seat on the sofa. She let the dogs sniff it and did introductions...making sure that they kept a proper distance. The doll was treated like a baby for several days until the dogs became comfortable with it...seemed to work pretty well..we'll see when they get home.
Once the baby is here you can have someone bring a blanket/dirty diapers, ect. that the baby has been wrapped in home so that the dogs can become comfortable with the babies scent before she gets home.
Also pay less attention to the dogs (hard as that is) for a couple of weeks before delivery so that it's not such a shock when the babies here.

I don't have any babies around here, but I think I would buy blankets and have the baby sleep with them and put them in the dogs beds.

Congratulations, what a exciting time in your life.

my dogs and babies

My dogs have met several babies at our home...new babies of my dear friends. They love babies. They like to look at them. Riki licked one on the hand...we didn't let him kiss his face. They were very curious about him...and very sweet.

Not the behavior when we introduced him to my daughter's hamster...that was a different kind of interest.

My sister had a baby with her four dogs. The boxer actually took up babysitting the cradle to protect the baby. I guess all dogs react differently.

Congrats though!

I didn't just get havanese, I got a lifestyle!

Thanks everyone for all your good wishes. We are very excited. In the past 2 weeks, we have made quite a few trips to Babies r Us.

Eva, thanks for your advice. That's what I have been telling my daughter to do, also.

Congrats, Michele!

I think Eva had some great suggestions. My puppy, Max, has been around babies and children of all ages and has been wonderful! He has a different level of play for each child and seems to know when they need to be treated gently. I hope you have such a wonderful experience with yours.

Congrats Michele! You are going to be a Grama! How exciting! I bet the dogs will adjust just fine--tell your daughter I hope her delivery is quick and to stay in the moment if she can. Best wishes to you both! It's a baby boy?
