Spinning Like A Top

Last night Ginger was chasing her tail for at least 2 minutes continuously, like a spinning top. She stopped looked dazed and started in the other direction. I was laughing so hard I forgot to turn on the videocam. Do/did your pups chase their tails like this?

Keep an eye on that. If she does it only once in a while, there is no harm. But some dogs get obsessive about it. If she shows signs of doing it often, or for too long a time, distract her into some other activity.

Thanks for the tip. At this point in time it has only happened this once and to a much lesser extent one other time.

Zelda has always been a tail chaser. Probably not every day, but pretty often. She likes to tack it on to the end of a RLH session when she's worked up and extra wacky.

As long as it doesn't become obsessive, it's not a problem… just one more thing puppies do. When Kodi was a puppy, he did it if we were training something and he got frustrated. So in his case, it was a clear sign that I'd been asking too much. I don't think he ever chased his tail while just playing.

Mine does it from time to time, usually at bed time when he's all excited. He'll jump down onto the floor and then go in circles. He stops and changes directions too. I just figure he's dizzy. ha ha It's usually only for about 30 seconds or so. I think he's just burning off a bit of energy.

Yes, Kodi spins when he's excited too. But that's not the same thing as tail chasing. Obsessive tail chasers can actually damage their tail.
