Pure White Hav

Was wondering if anyone here has a pure white havanese? or with some light color markings? Has the white color changed at all since birth? I was what I'm trying to say is, do white Havs go through any color changes as the majority of havs usually do??

Thanks!

Our Tinky is mostly all white now.

When we met Tinky, she was four months old, she was white with black markings. By the time she was nine months old, those black markings had turned to silver. You can see photos of her changes here.

My first Havanese was born with a deep brown color. When we brought him home he was a rich sable. By the time he was a year old, he was nearly cream colored. Now he almost looks white because he has faded so much.

I don't have any statistics to prove anything, but it seems like a lot of Havs fade with time unless they are a solid black, black with white markings, black & white parti, or (going to leave this part out because too many people leap to conclusions and it doesn't impact many). Frankly, I like the color changes. It keeps you guessing.

In my opinion, the most important part of a pet Havanese is temperament. You really need to make sure the breeder will match the temperament of the puppy to his/her new home. Color/markings should be one of the least important issues.

I've heard that the WHite Hav's don't change and start picking up any color--- (unless it's mud, sand, or grass color :-) it's usually the other way around. Jasper was white with brown sable marking when he was a pup-- he is now mostly white with a little gray and a very light fawn that looks just like shading.

Lily is the same way. She had lots of color in her, and now except for a litle in her ears & tail, she is all white! I love the look with the huge brown rimmed eyes!!

Goldie was born white with Gold ears. Her ears pretty much faded to all white but now they are gold again. You just never know! I would guess if they are born solid white they would stay that way.

By the way, my once white & black bitch, who is now white with silver, has just recently grown her first sable patch on her back. It surrounds her silver marking. That's a change that didn't happen until she was 2.5 years old. This girl is going to keep entertaining us with color change it seems.

Laurie, I love the look of the big dark eyes too. It's funny because we went into the Havanese thing thinking any color would be fine we just didn't want an all white dog or an all black dog. But I am really happy with the way Jasper looks mostly white--- those eyes--- they are almost human. And Cash, well he's my very cool little man in black. It will be fun to see if Jas get's some color back as he ages and if Cash turns grey or brown.... keeps us guessing-
