i'm just wondering why all these new so called members (roughly 67 out of 110) are allowed to clutter the members online list.? This is only getting worse. A number of them have been banned? What"s with the two post rule?

I'm not a moderator here but I was on a different forum. All these new members are probably just "bots" used to spam the forum. They each need to be found, banned and then removed which is a lot of work for the small group of people who moderate the forum.

I am also a moderator on another forum and the preferred method of communication is to hit the ! button and report a post, and write up in that format what you want to tell them, or PM a moderator.

you would not believe the number of spam bots targeted at forums.

The two post rule? I do remove and ban the user, though I know it's just putting a finger in the dike.

The 2 post rule has been quite effective, IMO to keep the main page free of spam posts, most of the time, we can ban them before their spam posts.

They have kicked into HIGH gear for the holiday season, peddling their coach bags and whatnot.. The first thing I do in the morning before I even read my email is come ban people from forum. I'm not sure why their names don't vanish off the members list when they get banned, I'll ask, though.

I moderate an image enhancing software forum and the spamming this last few weeks has been horrendous. At least 1000 new "phony" members. Their post are invisible to the site (except for me) and they get deleted in bulk. But their names remain. I tried banning them but they constantly change their names, so it doesn't really help to ban. I just remove the posts (that no one sees anyway but it takes up space, so I remove them.) What's weird is that most of them are in foreign languages or horribly poorly translated.

The spam that gets through on here rarely makes any sense either. I'd be scared to death to click on one of the links!

I think the moderators are doing a good job with this. Most of the time you can ignore the post just by its title. If not then just don't click on any links within the post.

And if it hasn't been said recently, thanks for you efforts on all of our behalf.

Yes, when I see one that has slipped by them, I just click the "!" button to alert them to it. Almost always, when I go back to the forum later, the post is gone.
