safe for dog to hang with a sick friend?

Lucky (2 yrs) has been invited to play with his favorite puppy friend, a 5 month old Havanese who lives down the hall. The puppy, however, has had a sick tummy today, throwing up and having diarrhea. Her mother is feeding the puppy baby food (the vet told her to) and thinks she'll be fine. I'm wondering/worrying though whether Lucky could catch the puppy's tummy troubles? Do dogs pass these things on to each other or is the puppy likely just to be having a reaction from something she ate and no worries? Thanks for your wisdom.

I think the little pup needs time to rest. So, no playdate for Lucy IMO.

Have both had all their shots? Even so, I would think it best to let your neighbors pup recover from whatever it ails from before getting them together again.

Keeping them away from each other would be the best thing to do.

Thanks all. Sounds like you think/know (this is sort of my question) that dogs (and yes, they have all shots) can pass tummy things back and forth to each other? Or is it more that a sick little pup shouldn't be chasing around the room when she's getting better. Either way, Luck's stuck at home. Think it's good advice. But wondering the rationale. And thank you thank you.

No play date til the puppy is well. Could be Giardia or something else catching!

They DEFINITELY can pass tummy bugs back and forth. It certainly wouldn't be life-threatening for an adult dog, but it's still no fun to deal with. I'd keep Lucky away.

I'd keep them separated as well.

btw, Giardia is contracted by consuming fecal matter.

One of my big dogs, only thing she ever catches is yup Giardia, 3x so far.

So if you drink contaminated water, etc, you can get it. doesn't take much.

Many owners of anatolian shepherds live in more rural areas, one owner, was taking her anatolian, off leash, thru a creek. the dog shook some creek water onto the owner's face, and just a drop hit her lip, and yes, she ingested enough creek water to catch Giardia. Just saying...
