Pam has been gone for several days helping our daughter move into a different place at school so I was here by myself yesterday. Our best guess for delivery was on Tuesday or Wednesday and thought she would be back by then.
Yesterday, Sunday, Roxie ate breakfast like normal at about 8 a.m. Nothing out of the ordinary.
Two hours later and she came to tell me that the show was on. I got her cleaned up and everything in place thinking maybe she would deliver sometime early evening.
I carried one of the guys who works for us home by the time I got him to get ready to go. He lives a mile and a half away. When I got back to the house she had delivered the first one and had him cleaned up! It was 11:38 when I got back to the house. The pup was very strong and moving around as much as any one I've ever seen and hollering. He wasn't wimpering or in distress, he was hollering for breakfast. He was ready to eat and Mom's milk hadn't come down yet.
She finished delivering the last one, the fourth, at 12:58 and her milk hadn't come down yet. I was starting to think of what to do, called Pam, and when I went back in to check on her they were all lined up at the bar.
Checked their weights today and while sometimes it's normal for them to loose a little the first 24 hours, they had all gained 1/8 to a 1/4 ounce...except for the one girl. She had gained 1/2 ounce. She nurses until it looks like she's going to explode and then instead of rooting around to find a comfortable spot, she just rolls over on her back and sleeps where she is.
Roxie hasn't stopped smiling.
