need help with male pups

Hey guys...I need a little advice. We have 2 male puppies that we are keeping to see how they turn out and possibly add to our breeding program. they are both 1 year old and from different litters. Our problem is that in the last 2 months, they have started to fight EVERYDAY and it is driving my husband to insanity. Now, I know I could medicate him with a nice cool beverage but I can't do that EVERYDAY!!! LOL....I know they are trying to determine who is top dog but it is making us nuts... I am open to any suggestions you can give us to help curb this problem. Yes, we can separate them but would really like to address the behavior rather than just eliminate the problem that way. This is a totally new problem for us. In the end we may not keep either of them if testing is not right, etc... but in the meantime, we need some advice. Thanks Susan

Have you tried walking and walking and walking some more. A tired dog will be to tired to fight. My elkhound and pitt started to growl at eachother when Strut hit 1 yrs old (he is intact and Brut, the pitt, is neutered) so I started walking 45 min every morning together. They are on the same side and everything. It took a couple of weeks but it ended all the complications. So maybe it will work for your little ones? Worth a shot...the only down fall is I had to start getting up 45 min earlier than I normally get up. Good Luck

We saw a Dog Whisperer on this, he made the owners show the dogs that they were the alpha dog! You could probably find the episode.

Do either of the two dogs cause any injuries? If not they are probably just playing . Quite often we interpret these sessions as aggressive more than they are. Keep in mind that their testosterone levels are approaching their max. which occurs around 18 months. They might need some training to be more relaxed around each other ie. classical conditioning. Here is a good audio tape about dog fighting by one of the world's foremost authorities on dogs. Dr. Ian Dunbar. Its about 50 minutes. but worth it. Since you want to possibly breed them , neutering them is not an option. Keep in mind , neutering a dog does not change the individual behaviour of the dog being neutered , it only changes the way other dogs behave toward it. here is the link to the audio
