BRILLIANT homemade chew toy!

Take your old jeans, cut strips and knot away. Moxie has been occupied with these this evening. DH even inserted a squeaker inside a knot. Moxie spent alot of time trying to destroy it, making progress until we retightened the knots and tossed it back, over and over and over.
Pricetag: $0.00

Debra, just like a kid, huh? Sometimes the best toys are free!! Cute idea. Tucker really likes stringy things, too, or ribbons.

What a great idea!
(says Ann, who just watched Roxie destroy her "undestroyable" pink dragon,
her AKC bunny, and her little blue fish in one evening... and the bunny was
BRAND SPANKING NEW!)

Here is another idea----We did this in Girl Scouts for the animal shelter and my dogs loved them-

Take an old bath towel and cut into 3 strips, then knot it at one end and braid it--when you have it braided knot that end and trim it. They are a great tug toy!

I wrote an article for the Havanese Horizons about almost the same thing. I have a lot of fleece in the house and cut it into strips after it's washed and braid it for the dogs to play with. HH is working again (she fixed it FAST!!) and the toy is here

Jan, I just went to the Horizons site and it looks like an interesting publication. I didn't know about it. Is it free, and you can just go look at it online?

We (the HCA PR committee) put it out free for all to download and print if you like. There's a new one being wrapped up now and will be available soon (AND IT'S GOOD!....but I'm biased). Here's the main page with all the issues http://www.havaneseclubofamerica.org...f68291c828ef3c

I've been realllly wary and haven't given capote and taylor string toys or something that can string.. My friend had a jack russell who used to LOVE those knot ropes and he had to have surgery because the separate strings twisted and knotted itself in his small intestines and then he couldn't digest it. There's a bunch of stories online about similar things that happened to other dogs too..

Interesting. I have tons of denim/jean remnants from turning jeans into skirts.

Be careful with the strings, Gucci was in pain one day and whimpering, I thought she was just constipated, (she was) but when she finally passed the stool (with mommy's help...ewww!) there was strings in it from a chew-rope toy, I'm certain that was causing her pain and difficulty.

They also say thread is dangerous for animals, I'm not sure why, maybe it can be inhaled into their lung, or get stuck? But I'm really careful about cleaning the sewing room floor!
