What do you think of this harness?

I found this woman's doggie shop on Etsy, a site where I sell my jewelry. I love her stuff, and I was wondering if this harness would work for a Hav - in terms of matting, etc. It looks easy to put on and take off, anyway:

I know she can custom make them, also, to a dog's specific size. I always thought the ones I got from the pet store for my yorkie seemed stiff and hard, and wondered if they chafed or were uncomfortable.

She's got some super cute coats and stuff, too. I love the one with the pom pom on the hoodie!

They are cute but I wonder about sizing. Neither Oliver or Comet fit into the "size on the label" I was happy to go to a store and try different sizes on instead of waiting for the mail to come.

Sally,((Oliver)) Comet and Pennie too!
The best things in life are not things!

I like the design except for the buckle being on the neck part. If you don't teach your dog how to heel properly, or like me you let them get away with it on walks, it is going to defeat the part the harness does of protecting their neck. The nice part is it is on a long backed dog so it might be the right length for our dogs. I do have to agree with Missy being able to do it in person is so much nicer especially since a lot of Neezers are built differently. Dash is much thinner than Dora so while they are about the same height, they are not the same size harness.

I like the pom pom head! I just imagine putting that on one of my dogs, the other two would go crazy!

Thinking of adding a Neezer, check out this thread!

Sophie would matt up from that in an instant. But it may be nice if your dog has a thinner coat or a puppy cut....in any case, it's adorable!

Unconditional love!

I am always concerned about the use of velcro on dogs. If the velcro comes apart then what?

oooh, you're right about the velcro, hadn't thought of that.

this one might be worth a try, but maybe not until I have an older, well trained Hav, and depending on coat texture too, from the sounds of it.

I assume harnesses are better than collars for walking, though, right? Is is better to use a collar when training for heel, etc.? I think I'm going to sign up for a six week puppy class. Guess I'd better actually get the dog, first...

Amanda - actually, I just noticed the loop where you attach the leash looks to be farther down on the top/back of the harness. Though it's cloth, not metal... hmm.... I guess durability might be an issue with this one. Might be better for a dog that is older, a slower walker and not a puller.

I would look into Puppia harnesses if I were you. They buckle and are soft, so it would definitely work for a puppy. I know that Kubrick will mat from one if he wears it too long, but he will even mat from a rolled leather collar if he wears one too long, so I usually don't put much stock by that - at least when it comes to this dog.

really? I thought it looked more comfortable for walks than the strappy nylon harnesses from the pet store. Well, I don't have my Hav yet, so I'm not familiar with the matting problem. My yorkie matted, but nothing like what I'm hearing described here. Is that why the long Noooooooo, or because you think it's silly looking? I don't mind how it looks, kind of half coat, half harness, though it might be hot in the summer.
