Question I have created a picky monster!! HELP!

Duncan will only eat his kibble with some human food in it.
The whole family is guilty but I think it needs to stop.
I was wondering how long he'll go without eating just plain kibble??
Has anyone ever had the same thing with their pup?
He eats twice a day, morning kibble with some crumbled cheese and dinner is kibble with a little bit of broth and some ham mushed in.
Basically I'd like to know how to get him on strictly kibble.
Please share your ideas.
THanks!!

I went thru a really really picky stage with Dasher and I drove myself insane. I was changing and doing things every other day. I finally listened to Kathy and she said just put it out and take it away if he doesnt eat it. I did that for 2 days straight and now a few months later, Dasher NEVER refuses his food. In fact he eats everything on his plate (except the peas!) and then will finishes Belle's if she leaves any.

I do supplement my dogs food to keep them interested, change up the kibble, etc. So that might not be a bad idea to supplement a bit, but if you don't want to, you have to be strong!

Todd used to be extremely picky. I worried myself sick trying to find something that he would eat and added either wet food or other goodies to the bowl to entice him to eat his kibble.
I finally gave up and completely stopped all extras.
Within a couple of days he was eagerly eating whatever was placed in front of him...ie..plain kibble.
You may want to stop all treats when trying to switch him over to just kibble so that he doesn't hold out for those and ignore the food.
I think that I've heard that up to 3 days is the normal hold out period...good luck!

one of my main concerns is that he won't eat and then go hungry and end up throwing up bile.
I know I have to be strong but this is going to be an up hill battle!!
Wish me luck!

I went thru this with Lilly. She didn't want anything but human food. Well I stopped it all because she wasn't getting a balanced meal. She didn't eat for 2 days and on the last day that night she ate. She did throw up the 2nd day in the AM BUT she did not die. Understand what I mean. They try us just like our children do. Put it out make sure he sees it and then after 20 min or whatever length of time you choose take it up until the next meal. He will not starv himself. If after 3 days it could be something else but 9 out of 10 they eat on the 2 day or the 3rd morning. Stay strong.

Pirelli went 3 days with out eating. I even tried completely raw with her and she would not eat it. So Out went that and in came a good kibble, she is now on blue buffalo and she eats everything I give her. But initally it did take 3 days of no eating. She did not die either or throw up. But I wish you the best of luck and the ability to stay STRONG!!

We just went thru this with Logan, I was taking him off the expensive VEt food that only Lily needs. I researched thru you guys, and decided on Wellness and they HATE it!! They would not eat for days - and threw up bile a few times - one time in my bed!!!! Yuk!!
So I gave up!! I just went back to the expensive Vet diet and all three are eating like they did - picky little buggers!!!

Well, I would take out the ham for sure! It is high in sulfites and salt. You just have to stick to your guns and stop, they will get hungry enough to eat, although...probably boycott for a few days.

Yeah, I think these guys are picky. i had always made Henry have kibble as the main meal, but I do toss some wet dog food in there, and lately peas. He eats the entire bowl. He rarely gets people food.
A friend gave him a "cheddar" dog treat, and i guess Henry has such a bland diet that he threw it up.

We did the same with Tugger. He got to the point where he would only eat if we fed him by hand. We started with mixing a little wet food and hot water into his dry food and taking away any food that was not finished in 1/2 hour. Once he started eating all his food we switched to just adding hot water and stirring it up also removing the left overs. Then we just went to dry kibble. It only took a few times before his appetite perked up and he was eating it plain. The secret was also to not give him more the next meal just his regular sized serving. We went by the serving size recommended on the side of the bag. Now he can't wait for the food bowl of dry kibble to hit the flooor. YOu wouldn't believe it was the same dog.
