Road trip! Need your advice!

DH, Max and I leave tomorrow for our trip to Tennessee .

This is will a "first" for many things.

First time for booster seat in the back seat (he's always sat on my left leg looking out the driver window). That may be fun .

First time to drive more than an hour.

First time to stay in a hotel (6 whole days)!!

First time to not be able to come home to potty on the potty pads .

First time to wear belly band.

I hope I've remembered everything. Got him micro-chipped Wipes, comb & brush, potty pads, extra leash, collapsable (sp?) food bowls, food, bottled water, ziplock bags for poop patrol, long lasting chews for times left alone in room, Sherpa, favorite blanket and toy, new toy, belly band. Whew!

Since this is the first time in a hotel, I think the few times he will be alone, I will put him in his crate (question: could I get away with just the medium size Sherpa?) with a sheet over it and put a DND sign on the door.

As weird as this sounds, I'm most worried about potty times when we are driving. He never goes potty when I take him for a walk. He always waits for the potty pad at home. Any comments?

Once we are there, I'm not worried. The hotel has lots to see and do and it's dog friendly. I also will be visiting a friend in her home most afternoons.

He will have a different routine, so I expect some adjustments. I loved the thread that talked about their dogs holding out for restaurant food! I have held out for an entire year and never fed Max anything except food or treats made for dogs (I don't want a begging dog and all it takes is once .

I'm sorry for the long post. I've asked a couple of questions that I would really like comments on.

Please pray for a fun and safe trip!

I think you'll be fine. Tucker has made the trip twice to Idaho with me, which is a 14-16 hour drive each way. Usually we go straight through. Once we stayed in a hotel. He was fine each time. I just stopped every 2-3 hours to let him stretch his little legs, and I ate in the car. He didn't eat or drink much during the trip, but I figure that is probably safer for the car's condition, anyway.

Have a great time!

Thanks, Ryan and Sher! I'm excited as a little kid about making this trip! I never have to worry about stopping. DH has a teeny bladder.

Have fun! We took Scooter on a 5 hour drive and he did fine. He got very agitated when he had to go potty, we let him out and while he was doing his potty one of us would go get food or drinks.

Hope you have a great time!

Thanks Ann! Potty time worries me the most because I don't pay any attention to Max anymore since he goes on the potty pads. Oh well, I guess I'll learn! It will be fun.
