I Didn't Sleep Last Night!

Over the last few weeks I have noticed that there is a Lab in our area whose owner chains him in the front yard during the day. Now this wouldn't bother me if he had shelter and some sort of warm bedding, but instead he's just out in the elements laying on wet leaves.

Today I decided that I have to go investigate, and if he's out there again
I was thinking about going and buying a dog house and put a warm blanket inside.

What do you guys think??

Here is the dog house I'm thinking about getting:

Diane~ Your heart is as big as all outdoors! What a wonderful thing to do for that poor dog.

Any way you can encourage the owners to take better care of their dog??? Perhaps this?

Hi Diane!
That seems kinda sad.. did you find anything out yet?
You know, if they are that creepy to leave the dog outside all day in the way you describe, then they will probably just laugh at your dog house and not care to much for your kind gesture, you know? some people..............

Well, when I was going to the store the other day I saw the owner had taken him off the chain and he was romping in the yard (she has a tiny house and yard). But when I was coming home he was back on the chain (maybe she comes home at lunch to see him?)

What I was going to do was just put the dog house in the yard and check to see if he had a water dish (I lost my Aussie last October and have several large bowls)

My DH just left for work and I asked him to see if the dog is now out...It's suppose to rain alot today and is cold!

What a wonderful, kind thing to do
You might try approaching the dogs owner and mentioning that you have several items (including a doghouse) left from your Aussie (so sorry for your loss btw) and you were wondering if she would like to use them for her dog.

My DH just drove by the house and didn't see the dog out..It's only 8:30am here, which means maybe the owner hasn't left for work yet. I have to take my Hav's to the groomer at 11:00, so I will check again..

Several years ago we had a neighbor (next door) who chained her dog outside night and day, rain or shine, with NO shelter or water!!! It took me a few sleepless nights before I decided to start sneaking out at night and put him into my garage where he could sleep on a warm dry bed..then I'd sneak him back out at the crack of dawn. Well before long a dog house appeared! Next I went over and put a water dish out for him having to go over periodically to wash and fill it because they never did..

Why do people own dogs if they are going to neglect them??

BTW...has anyone ever watched "Dog Town"?

Diane,

I'm about to leave the house and thought I'd just stop by here for a minute first. I should know better. There goes my makeup . . . again. How profoundly sad for that poor animal who has no control over his circumstances. By all means, do get that poor soul any help you can. God bless him and you for caring. Let us know how it goes. I'm praying for him.

You're such a sweetheart. That poor dog!
My brother and sister in law had dogs and I had no clue for quite a while. They were always in the backyard so I didn't even know they were there. I don't get it and they don't understand us keeping the dogs in the house and <gasp> in our bed.

Diane…just be careful
Let me tell you what a friend is going through right now. Story about the same as yours…big dog chained out "all the time". My friend carried over things and every few days took a big chew bone over and felt so bad about this poor dogs life. Not much she could do since they kept the dog on their property. Finally the neighbor ask her if she wanted the dog since she was so concerned about it and since it was getting mean. My friend told her the dog is ill at you because she is chained and can't exercise and play but she has never been ill at me. Yep, she took it and had a fence put up and gave the dog a much better life. A month later the neighbor's grand daughter was visiting and she came over to see the dog…entered the backyard without anyone knowing…and the dog bite her. Not bad…but bad enough to break skin. It has since been a mess….and they are now suing my friend!!

We got in a mess years ago when I was trying to help a neighbor's little dog -- and I posted it 'somewhere' in a thread (??).
Just be careful because not all people feel…and truly love…their pets like we do. Maybe ask the neighbor if she would like to have some items that you no longer use to make the dog happy..like a doggie birthday gift. I sure hope it works out great for the dog!! You are a special person to care so much.!
