CASH caught a rabbit!!!

This is far worse than poop eating! This morning, Cash was in the bushes rolling around with a rabbit and dragging it and rolling it over. We don't know if it was wounded before...or if my "sweet" little boy actually wounded him. (this Rabbit was probably the size of many of your Havs)

I scooped up Cash and DH scooped up the rabbit and put him in a safe place... he had a gash on his nose. when we went to pick the rabbit up to figure out what to do with him...he hopped through a hole in the fence. so maybe he had just been in shock. Cash is stalking the door trying to figure out how to get back outside.

Do you think he was playing with it? or do you think he wanted to eat it?

I am so freaked out right now. How can I ever cuddle my little boy again and not see a rabbit killer?

(Jasper ran and hid...LOL... he is the one who so fiercely chases them...)

I think that he was playing with the rabbit and things got out of hand, which is not unusual. I think if Cash had any intention of "killing" the rabbit, it would be dead! My guys are like this with squirrels, and I always wonder "what they would do if he actually caught one"
Give that Cash a hug and buy him a stuffed rabbit - maybe he will learn to play nice with other rabbits.

Missy, take a deep breath. I think he was trying to play with it. I agree with Laurie. If he wanted to kill it, you would have found a dead rabbit. Please don't hold it against him. He is still your sweet little boy, he just thought he found a new playmate. I am glad to hear that rabbit ran away. That means he is probably going to be okay.

Missy, Don't feel to bad about the rabbit. Peoples cats are the biggest rabbit population killers out there. And yeah, Cash is 20+ pounds?? I'm sure he could have snapped the rabbit in half if he wantd to.. lol

You're right Ryan. When I was growing up, our house backed onto a ravine and our cat (aka Killer Kitty) would always be bringing home 'presents' for us. Half-eaten birds, mice, pieces of rabbit fur Tokens of love my dad used to say...lots of fun the day he ran in the house before we could check his mouth and let the live mouse go. Ahhh...memories

Hurray for Cash the rabbit killer!!!! Can I borrow him to give Daisy a few lessons? She has chased them for 3 years but never has caught one. We have a rabbit plague going here. They have destroyed tens of thousands of dollors worth of landscaping and you can only (savely) eat the ones you shoot in the winter months.

Cash is to well feed to want to eat the rabbit...I am sure he was just having a little fun. He is still your "sweet boy", just alittle mischievous today.

I came home to a wounded duck in my garage once...the cat was having a little fun with the duck. I am still not sure how the duck got though the cat door with the cat???

Missy, I've been through this with our cat, Shadow. He has caught mice, but when he's dragged poor helpless birds (some as big as small crows!), it's a lot more pitiful because of all the squawking going on! I used to think of Shadow as such a "beast" and cruel because he was killing for joy, not food. Then I realized that, well, he IS a beast. He's an animal after all and nature is what it is.

Cash probably had a little prey drive going and the fun for him was the chase and the capture, not the harming of that rabbit. It was all in "fun", though for us it isn't such a pretty sight sometimes! I'd be more concerned about rabies than about why he played with that rabbit. The risks are sooooo minimal, but the thought would cross my mind.

I'll bet the next time (or three!) he goes out back, Cash will head straight for that spot and see if his "friend" is coming out to play!

A DUCK??? Whoa. That's quite the bird for a cat to catch and play with.

Missy- He must have saw the thread about saving money and he was going to make his own NV medallions! Dora got a hold of a rabbit once but I saw her and just grabbed her. I think it is normal for them to want to do this. They need to remind you they are dogs just in cuter coats

I grew up with Goldens and many times we had ducks and birds without heads in our yard
