Regular ear washings

Does anyone out their use the liquid ear wash you place in your dogs ear, swish it around and wipe to get all the gunk out? How frequently?

Once or twice. Typically, I wipe out the part of the ear I can readily see after Leo's twice weekly baths and put Bio Groom Ear Fresh powder in each ear. I do pluck some hair from his ears about once a month but Leo is a fluffy pup. Not sure how much that is needed on less fluffy pups. He doesn't tend to get yucky stuff in his ears.

I bought it for Tyler now that he isn't going to the groomer anymore, but found that I really don't need to use it as his ears are very clean. I have tired it a couple of times and haven't gotten any dirt out. I also pluck his ears occasionally, but they don't have a lot of fluff in them. Bailey used to have very thick hair in his ears.

In a wellness visit last week my vet found Ludo had an ear infection. I'd just taken for granted the groomer knew what to do with his ears (internally). Turns out she hadn't been plucking them or cleaning them well enough and he got an infection. My point being I be reading up on how to care for his ears myself so thanks for the post.

Since wee pups I would use an ear cleaner and wipe around ear with q tip. Not going into the ear canal. Recently, I just bought witch hazel because I read I could use it instead. I think it's a cheaper way to go. My guys have never had any ear problems and they are 9, 8 and 7 years old. I clean their ears at least every other day.
