Discovered something new!

We've had Pepper for about 1-1/2 years now and I just learned that he sometimes howls when we leave the house. My son mentioned it in passing last night. I was shocked! All this time I thought Pepper would just lie down with the other dogs and nap in my and DH's absence, but not true - at least not always. According to my son, about 15 minutes after we leave - and if my son happens to be in bed or in his room with the door closed - Pepper will begin howling and one or two of the other dogs will join him.

My son will then open the bedroom door and shout down the hall, which promptly quiets the dogs for the rest of our outing. I guess Pepper is content to know SOMEONE is home.

I've asked him to call me the next time it happens so I can hear it for myself. Guess this is one advantage to living out in the boondocks, there's no one to complain about the noise.

This has me wondering...do you think your dogs do things that you have NO idea about while you're gone?

Wanda, LOL, that's funny. I'm sure Kubrick does things I don't know about... he's a sneaky little guy.

LOL Monte howls for the first few min whenever I leave with Riley and leave him home with DH. I am so bad I have to call when I get down the street so I can hear him and even made DH tape him once for me.

To my knowledge, Gryff has never howled. My sister and I used to joke that our dogs would go bowling while nobody was home.

All of our dogs, now including Chico. pretend they aren't home if somebody comes to the house when we aren't home. I assume they are quiet even if nobody rings the doorbell. If we are home when somebody comes to our door they bark like mad. I guess they are protecting us not our empty home.

Caya howls when we leave. It takes her about 5 minutes before she "protests" us being gone with a howl. The howling only lasts about a minute. We actually used the "puppy cam". It was so funny!
