CAT ON FIRE FOR CHRISTMAS!!

Just thought the forum might like a bit of a chuckle the day after Christmas.

As some of you may know, Oregon has been socked in with more snow than has ever been seen here. Winter weather has been snarling the city for almost two weeks making Christmas preparations near impossible.

There has probably been at least 10-12 inches of snow but 4' snowdrifts at our place and the low was 17 degrees. My two dogs have considered this a personal challenge as they decide which snow drift to scale like a mountain to do their business. Stuey is very careful and cautious and Sadie runs around diving into the highest drift and scooping up the snow with her tongue. She lies in the snow like a crouching lion, waiting for Stuey to come near so she can attack. She comes in with huge ice snow balls hanging off her fur so have to take time to dry them both. They have reminded me of kids with the first snowfall.

Anyway, yesterday my daughter and new son in law (they got married July 12) came to our home to open gifts and got stuck near our home. They were late anyway because navigating the roads has been a real nightmare. We finally began to open gifts late morning & realized we were going to have to stop and transfer everything to their house because dinner was in the oven and & it was going to have to be taken out before we were through opening gifts.

We packed up the gifts and dog stuff and off to their house we went for the day. Stuey and Sadie, especially Sadie, have to be very good and they are not because they own a cat (& dogs want to chase him) that my daughter dearly loves as much as I love my dogs. I have has to keep them on a leash everytime we take them to their home and the dogs of course hate that. I had them off thinking they were better around the cat when I heard my husband and son screaming to get the cat which immediately brought me to reality. Sadie was chasing the cat with Stuey in pursuit when the cat jumped up on their china table that has several candles burning and lit its tail on fire. Anyway, cat jumps down and I guess puts the fire out, although it was singed and oh did it stink like burning hair does!

Needless to say Stuey and Sadie were definately in the dog house after that! It was a most memorable Christmas.

Oh, dear! Bad dogs, bad dogs! I bet they stay on leash from now on! Ha!

Poor cat...he'll probably have nightmares!

Poor Baby!

I cannot imagine all the snow that your furbabies have on them from coming in from the outside, I am just getting use to a little rain on Dexter!

Poor kitty....I love kitties, but I have to admit it is kind of funny.

Just when I think I have my two trained not to mess with the cat, they chase him all around and give him a bad time.

PS: I forgot to mention that my husband said the cat's tail lit up like a torch so I have no idea how or why the fire went out except that my daughter uses alot of hair products on kitty's fur. It is a ragdoll cat & my daughter is most proud of its luxurious tail. OOOPS! Believe me when I say that kitty was fine & we are so grateful. I have no explanations for this except that Christmas is a blessed day and God had mercy on us all. Rather than setting its tail on fire, the cat could have jumped on their beautiful dining room table set with all of their new wedding china & crystal which would have broken so since the cat is fine I think he chose wisely.

In the past, kitty knows that the dogs are on leash at his house and cannot chase him so he bravely walks in front of them whiffing them with his tail. At Thanksgiving, I put them in their crates while we ate dinner and the cat actually walked on top of the crates driving S & S crazy. Poor Kitty, I don't know about that.

PS Again for all you cat lovers. Let me be clear with my story. The cat still has hair on its tail but some hair is singed. I can't explain that either.

Sometimes I go all day without a good laugh and get on here and there is always something that gives me a smile of laugh. I am really glad the cat is ok.

OMG, I know just what that looked like. I have Maine Coons, long hair, and I don't light candles anymore since they caught on fire.

I'm glad the kitty is ok, but that must have been quite a sight. Someone could make a movie just reading this forum.
