OK so I read everyone's posts and I don't plan on showing Izzy - bought her on a No show contract - but can someone explain the whole name thing to me with all of the CH and Grand CH stuff...
Izzy's mom has the CH in front of her name.............
I noticed that some people here indicate the whole name - I just am confused.
Because Izzy is just Izzy - well Isabella - or IZZY's BELLY or PSYCHO puppy .....
Beyond what Tom wrote about the CH and Grand CH, there are also MANY performance titles dogs can earn, and those go AFTER the name rather than before.
As far as whether you use the dog's registered name here or just their pet name… that's TOTALLY up to you! I'm proud of my dog, proud of his breeding and LIKE his registered name… so I choose to use it in my signature. But there are very well bred dogs from excellent breeders here on the forum whose owners don't bother with anything but their pet names. It's COMPLETELY up to you.
I WOULD suggest that you complete your AKC registration, (and choose a registered name, if the breeder didn't do it ahead of time) even if your dog is "just" a pet (the BEST thing for a Havanese to be!!!) One of the benefits of AKC registration, even if you have no intention of showing or competing in performance events, is that you can sign up for their lost and found enrollment. They send you a small tag to attach to your dog's collar.
The benefit of this is that even if you have your dog microchipped (you should) SOMETIMES readers can't find the chip, and sometimes people don't know enough to check. Even if you have your own ID tag on your dog, there is a limited amount of information you can fit on it.
If you sign up for AKC's lost and found service, (a one-time $15 fee) and a person calls, they can get not only YOUR contact info, but back-up people to call if they can't reach you, your veterinarian's number in case the dog has gotten hurt, etc. This service is available 24 hours a day.
When you pay the amount of money you need to pay for a well bred animal, be it dog or horse, it just makes sense to make sure their registration papers are in order! It's not even expensive with the dogs!
Oh, one other reason to use your dog's registered name (including kennel name) here… Kodi and I have been able to stay in contact with many of his "Starborn relatives" because they see the "Starborn" name in my signature and know that we are all "related"!
