a big loss for the havanese community

Dorothy Goodale, who purchased two groups of dogs from two families from Cuba who were in the United States. She began breeding this original native Cuban dogs in the later years of the 1960s, and her foundation dogs are the ancestors of our dogs today. Dorothy sadly has passed away.

There are many posts from those who knew her on some of my other lists.

I am sorry to hear of her loss.

I do hope that those who knew her will tell us a little about her.

(This message has been updated, it has come to my attention that she did not import the dogs from Cuba, rather purchased them from two families already living in the US from Cuba. Best to have correct information about someone so important to our breed.)

"The sole American interest in this almost forsaken Cuban Toy came from a Colorado breeder, Dorothy Goodale. She was able, in the late 1960s, to secure eleven dogs from families who had fled Cuba." from Kitty Braund, Our Havanese

I didn't just get havanese, I got a lifestyle!

I didn't know her but I am grateful to her for bringing this wonderful breed to the US, and eventually to all of us.

Best, Poornima

I really wish I could have met her. I could have listened to her stories and really seen what it was like to give new life to this wonderful breed. My life is so much richer because I am surrounded by Havanese love, and I will always be grateful to her for making it possible.

So sorry for the loss to the entire Havanese community. I hope she was aware of the joy she brought to so many by introducing these sweet little doggies to the US.
