Hey there. I have a question. Are Havanese generally a one person kind of dog. We rescued a 2 yr old and he fell instantly in love with my husband. My husband never did anything to encourage i( I did all the work). Just curious to see if they usually bond to one more than another. He still likes all of us but he chooses to do all his cuddling with my husband. Thanks

I don't think they are generally thought of as "one person" dogs. Kodi seems equally happy to cuddle with either my husband or I, depending on who's home. His FAVORITE cuddle spot is between us on the bed.

Like you I did most of the work when we bought our pups home. For the most part they all follow me around. Our Havis aren't really cuddlers but if they do, Canela does lean more to my husband and Vino to me. Occasionally they do switch it up but rarely.

Now, our Vizslas are one person dog. Hunter is clearly my husband and Roxxy is mine.

Dana and I have distinctly different relationships with Gibbs, but it's hard to say he prefers one of us over the other. He certainly seems more excited to see me when we both come back from somewhere together, but that might be because he sees more of Dana during the regular work week. He certainly seems to enjoy belly rubs more with Dana, but he likes to play with me more.

I call him "my buddy" and Dana calls him "my boy", and that seems to mirror our relationship (if that makes any sense).

John

We picked this breed specifically because they don't tend to bond with just one person. Zelda prefers whichever of us is trying to leave the room to get something done. She wants both of us to be watching whatever performance she's putting on.

That is VERY similar to what happens here. I think there are two resins for it here, and it sounds like they may be similar for you. First, Kodi's with me most of the time. So it's just plain not that EXCITING to see me. My older son, who doesn't live with us any more also gets over-the-moon greetings. Second, Dave does more "exciting", rough-house type play, and he encourages the wild greetings, where I actively DIScourage it. Dave comes in the house picks Kodi up and they, literally, howl together. (yeah, Dave the "dog hater" howls with the dog ) I, OTOH, expect Kodi to greet me quietly and gently when I get home. So he waits politely while I get my coat off and put things dow, then we have a quiet, non-excited "hug" and go on about our day.

That is Gibbs and I. I get down on all "fours" in a crouch position and growl, bark and chase him. I then turn around and let him chase me. We go back and forth. I tried "shaking" like him a few times, but I threw my neck out and had to go to the chiropractor.

I swear Gibbs must be asking himself one of two questions:

1. When is daddy going to grow a tail
or
2. When am I going to be able to walk upright

Whimsy loves my DH no doubt about it, but I'm number one in her world.

Mikey is certainly MY velcro dog, no doubt about it but he loves everyone (as long as I'm around) He loves to play with my husband. I wish he was a cuddler but he will only be on my lap if he's chewing on something, not to just cuddle and sleep. HOWEVER, when I leave the room for any reason, he follows me everywhere and unless he's in his crate, he panics when I'm gone. I love my super buddy but I do wish he was more secure when I wasn't around. Luckly I crate trained him from day one so at least he feels safe in his crate.
