Question Dogsitter Pay - How Much

We have a dogsitter that has been taking care of our Golden Retriever while we are away for a couple of years. She spends the night, comes in at lunch and is here after work. We pay her $30/night and double for holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve and Christmas day). When we were away this Thanksgiving and Christmas, we left our Havanese, Scout, for the first time. It had not occurred to me that she would want to be paid more for the second dog, but she says she stopped at the house more and it was extra duties. Any thoughts on what would be a fair amount for the second dog?

Also, does anyone else pay for overnight dogsitting? If so, how much?

I think $30 is pretty good. In LA, I paid $60 for an overnight sitter but I worked with her (everything is more expensive there too!). She lived with her parents so she just really wanted out of the house. In SC, we are using one of my husband's grad students at $40 for an overnight. Since it is only a night or two, I don't even have them walk the dogs. It is really just letting the dogs out and letting them be at their home. None have charged me more for the multiple dogs but to be honest, they don't have to do much as I really just care more about the dogs staying at home. For longer trips, maybe some grooming but so far, I have only had them feed them, fill up their water bottles if needed, play with them, and let them in the backyard.

I had a great pet sitter back in Ohio who was through They were a service with insurance and everything so it was more. I think like $65 an overnight. But it was cheaper than the daycare service I wanted to use.

I pay $25 for one $40 for two at a petsitter's house being for a 24 hour period.

I pay a petwalker $20 for a 1/2 walk/visit and if she is willing to do it she will stay at our house overnight for $50.

I think 30 is very reasonable and would offer her half for the 2nd dog. --$45. There is a bit more wrangling to do for two dogs...two meals, two leashes, two balls to throw... But we stopped using a woman because she wanted $45 for one and $90 for two at her house! ouch, that is not much less than a hotel room.

I've just been looking into it here. The rates seem to be $45-60 for three visits a day, two dogs, not staying overnight. Adding additional dogs is only a few dollars more per visit. Here though, boarding costs just as much for more than one dog, and the dogs will be happier at home.

I am very lucky! Our breeder boards her puppies for $15 a day. Mojo gets to see his mom and new litter mates. He loves it!

I am paying $85.00 for 2 dogs and 2 cats for overnight stay. She comes in the evening and leaves late morning. They do charge more for more animals where I am at.

My daughter checks on them a couple hrs in the afternoon.

I pay $40 a night for the two dogs to stay at my breeder's mother's house. She is wonderful and they have a great time there. I have a petsitter who I use to come for 1/2 hour is I have to be gone longer than 4 hours or so. She is $18 for a 1/2 hour visit.

We have 12 dogs in the house, 3 outside, sometimes a litter of puppies, seven horses (really they just need their water filled up if we are only gone for a weekend), around 12 chickens (self waterers and feeders but need checking up on and collecting egggs), and 4 cats. Everything is set up pretty efficiently but it still takes a while.

We pay what it takes to keep the helpers happy and wanting to come back. We asked at our favorite vet's years ago if anyone knew someone who would want to come stay for us and a vet tech jumped at the chance. She and her husband both come and seem to really enjoy their stay. They love the animals and the animals love them and are glad to see them when they come.

We pay $75 a night, plus gas money, plus they are welcome to any food that's here.

Really, it's a priceless service and we are pleased on both sides with the arrangements now.

Wow. Tom's house sounds like fun! I'd take that job!

I pay $25 per dog for a sitter to take the dogs at her house for the night. We pay the $50 to leave the 2 dogs with her as I would rather they are with someone all the time. She charges $18 for a 20 minute house visit/walk, no matter how many animals there are.

I've been looking into this and sofar haven't found anyone willing to stay at my house. The average cost to board your dog at one of our local "Pet Resorts" is anywhere from $30 to $45. I am visiting a place tomorrow that is $40 and only takes small dogs. It comes highly recommended by one of the folks at my Hav play group. I gulped at the price but it will be worth it for my piece of mind.

Heck...looking at the pictures, I'm thinking I might want to stay there!
