It's a scandal; I've been ranting about it here and there on this forum. It would be a scandal if human medics stocked packets of cereal or baby food in their waiting rooms, or had some of their university fees underwritten by the manufacturers of such products on condition that those same products were promoted in surgeries. It's no less of a scandal that it happens in the veterinary world.

Well, thank goodness for Dr Becker; it is totally disgusting that a food full of the things she describes can be called 'therapeutic'; and that the pet food industry has such sway over the very bodies who should be doing something about this, not to mention the vets who should be giving us unbiased advice. Some of the research out there on human diet is beginning to implicate grains and gluten in seriously scary stuff. Those of us (I am one) who can't eat gluten because it makes us ill are the lucky ones - we have no choice. For others, to whom these foods are doing no apparent harm, as with our dogs, it's another story and we are only just beginning to learn what future chapters might tell us.

Makes me crazy!!!! I feel like a cat food prisoner. Both my cats are on an rx diet for urinary crystals. I've been threatening to investigate alternatives either homemade or higher grade manufactured which I'm sure is better then what I'm currently feeding them. My vet wouldn't be offended if I told her I was going another direction as long as it wasn't causing any harm. I feel like I'm taking the easy way out sometimes.

hear ya Jen. Here is a site on cats that Sabine likes. Main thing is get off of kibble if you are having urinary problems. http://catinfo.org/

I WISH we could get our cat off kibble!!! We have the worlds weirdest cat. REFUSES even canned tuna, fresh cooked chicken, ANY cat food out of a can. You can keep kibble away from her for a week, and she'll start hunting before she'll tough anything but kibble.

I've even tried freeze dried raw... Won't touch that either. So I just by the highest quality kibble i can for her. Fortunately, she's 14 and very healthy, but...

She was a (young) adult shelter kitty when we got her, and all i can think is that she was so used to kibble before we got her that she just developed a preference for it. We've tried numerous times and numerous food sources, but she's as stubborn as only a cat can be!!!
