Obama narrows it down to two choices

and our dear Havs are not included. Obama said that they had it narrowed down to either a Labradoodle or a Porteguese Water Dog (he called it a Water Hound...).

Yep. I think Hav's would be too popular if Obama picked one. I would hate to know more Hav's were in puppy mills. Labradoodles are cute, but I've never seen a Porteguese Water Dog.

where he is releasing this info? I thought the wife was in charge.
I was kind of rooting for the Boston Terrier (aka America's Gentleman because of what appears to be a dog wearing a tuxedo)

Also, I understood the family would get one from a shelter and another from a breeder.

i agree, 2 dogs in that big house is better than 1

Portuguese Water Dogs are AWESOME! They look a little bit like big Havs to me (well except when they're cut into those poodle-like cuts).

I will be surprised if in the end he does not choose a Doodle, making hybrids more popular.

I'm happy that they didn't choose a Hav. I am not found of designer dogs so the Labradoodle would not be my choice either. Also the chances of having a reaction to the "Lab" part of the mix remains or so I have heard. Portugeuse Water Dog would be a fine choice I believe but I bet they go with the 'doodle.

I thought they might choose a Portie, since Ted Kennedy has two, and the Obamas are friends with the Kennedys and probably familiar with their dogs. Ted brings his dogs to work with him in the senate

Also, the Portugese Water Dogs are supposedly somewhat hypo-allergenic.

But, I can also see them with a big, floppy Doodle.

We looked at the Portuguese Water Dogs, we have a breeder just down the road from us. I really liked them, but they definitely bark a lot more than Hav's and need more exercise, so for us the Havs were just a better fit. Great size and personality, though, very cool dogs.
I also like the Australian Labradoodles that are more of a true new breed than just a random mix of poodles and labs....we had a couple of Goldendoodles in the neighborhood (1 moved now) that were sooooooooooo different in character...you really would not know what you're getting..

Yea, remember him saying the hav was a "girly dog" or something

We saw a Portuguese water dog last summer. Looked like a big Cooper
