"Before Grain" Kibble by Merrick -- Has anyone tried it?

I am still trying to settle on a kibble for Scout. After he outgrew his puppy food, I was feeding him Timberwolf. He was doing fine on it, but it is not readily available in Los Angeles, where I spend my summers. So, I switched him to Orijen. He also was fine with that. But, I had read some concerns that its protein level might be too high for Havanese (and that the high protein level could cause kidney problems). So, now I am transitioning him to Before Grain. He seems to be doing fine on it, too. Luckily, he seems to transition easily from one kibble to another (I do mix the old food and the new food during the transition).

Has anyone else tried Before Grain?

I also wonder about the high protien level of some kibbles. I'd like to try some with Havee, kibble w/o grains, although he's doing just fine on his Fromm's.

Should I be concerned about high protein levels in kibble?

I'm in the process of switching from Wellness Core Ocean (which has higher protein than the average kibble but less than Origen and EVO) to Origen. Right now I am feeding half and half, and since the change I have noticed that Dusty has much more spunk and energy. I tend not to worry about the higher protein if you have a healthy dog.
I also have a sample bag of the Before Grain. I'm feeding it as treats (cheap way to get a bag of treats-the large sample bag was $2.50 and smaller ones are often free) and the dogs seem to like it. No one is having upset tummies, and the ingredients look good.

Yes, as a matter of fact I saw a small trial bag at the petstore for $2, so I picked it up and I've fed it to Gucci twice, both times she ate it.

It is the buffalo one, I think (?) Its at the office so I'm not 100% sure, I'm at home today

But they are selling smaller 'trial' bags..

my boys loved it but it didn't love them. Both threw it up. But if Scout is doing fine...I think that is all you need to worry about. Merrick is a great brand.

We're mixing it half and half with Evo Red Meat, we have the Buffalo now and we tried the chicken. He likes both but seems to prefer the buffalo.

I am using Taste of the Wild for Gracie, although am thinking of switching her to raw...
I did buy some BG for our cats and they like it!
