New Puppy and Weather

So...I got a new puppy last week! Her name is Kiki. She is not a Hav, but a malti-poo. A lady near by had an accidental litter and I couldn't resist!!

She is 8 weeks old now and only about 1.5 lbs. As you know, I have 2 other dogs, and they are all getting along great for the most part. They run and play and wrestle all aroud the house, but I wish I had somewhere to take her to play!

Right now, she hasn't even been on a walk! I've tried taking her out 3 times with a sweater on, but she is so small, she just shivers. Since day one that we've had her, she has been about 95% trained on the pee pads.

I was just wondering if anyone had some new ideas of places to go to let her run like crazy?? It was -13F this morning and its only 7F right now.

Once she is 3 months, there is a puppy socialization class at the vets, and we're going to start her in a training class...but I was just wondering if anyone had some unique ideas of things I could do or places to go?

Thanks!!! And of course.....pictures! (sorry...she doesn't stay still for long so these are the best I have so far!!)

Adorable...

Mine didn't go for a walk outside until they were four months until all the vaccines were done. They did go over a friends house who had five havanese to play where we did some leash training in her huge backyard. We also trained on the leash in the house.

What a little sweetheart! Riki and Daisy say welcome!

I didn't just get havanese, I got a lifestyle!

I think waiting until shots is the way to go unless you have a friend with a yard and vaccinated animals. Linus shivers when it is cold out (below about 60) too. I am very careful with him outdoors.

What I did with Linus is put him in a pouch sling and go for a walk that way. We walked around campus with Luke (older dog) and showed him around. That way he stays warm, no chance of infection, and gets to participate.

What a doll! I can see why you couldn't resist. I like malit-poos. I really wanted a shi-poo I saw. I actually like almost any puppy I see. Sounds like she's doing real well with socialization just by being with your other dogs, and she's really getting that potty training fast.

We use the hallway and running in the kitchen when we do not want to go outside. Dexter is 12 weeks and runs very well. You have to tire out the pups, so they behave and go to sleep at night.

I know what you mean! She seems to get most of her energy at 11pm!

My other 2 dogs sleep in bed with us. For the first few nights she was sleeping in between me and my boyfriend in a small dog-carrying bag, just so she could be close. One night zI dosed off and forgot to put her in...no accidents! The next night, I put her in through the top, but someone had left the side halfway unzipped and she climbed out! Now...she is already part of the family and sleeping in bed, cuddled between our two pillows. She cries if she needs down to go potty!

She's a love-bug. I would wait until she has all of her shots to take her on walks. And those temps sound much too severe for a tiny puppy her size. But you could take her on little outings to an indoor mall, in a carrier, to help socialize her.
She sounds like a really good puppy.

HAV A GREAT DAY ! ~~AMY & BISCUIT~~
and HEATH-Y, TOO !

My two older boys have full snow suits, so when I take them outside to run and play in the snow for a bit, I take her with me..in her sweater, and zip her up inside my coat so she does get to go along too! I'll have to try that on a walk once the temps get back into then teens or 20s!
