Hi everybody,
We have joined the ranks of the Havanese Owners! Our new puppy's name is Gandorf (I know I have our login name wrong and don't know how to change it?). He is now 10 weeks old and was 9 weeks old when we got him a week ago. He now weighs 4 lbs. We have been dogless for the past two years as my wife was still getting over the loss of our two Lhasa Apsos who were brothers and lived to 16 & 17 years of age. So far he has been one great little guy and even asks to go outside to do his business, is kind of a picky eater, but reading here that sounds normal but is doing real well, LOVES to play, has barked only a couple of times and then only one or two barks because he was startled, sleeps all night by himself with no noise whatsoever. We are both retired so we have the time to be with him a lot. He is presently confined to a expen in the kitchen until we are sure he knows only to go outside. He loves the outdoors and would be perfectly content to stay there all day, but he will live inside most of the time. We have a complete dog yard for him complete with his own dog door (which is presently closed until he gets older) which our Lhasa's used which is gated so he can't get into the pool although when it is warmer we will teach him to swim and where to get out in case he does ever fall in! Did not know the breed was a "Herder" of chickens and sheep in Cuba, but that may explain why he runs and circles so quick like he does until after we got him, but that is great as we like the way he performs even at this very young age. Will let everyone know how he progresses as he ages.

Love his color! Welcome!! Have you read about the RLH's that Havanese love to do? That may be what your little guy is doing when he runs in circles!

He is a cutie pie. I love his coloring. You're lucky to have the time to really work with him in the early days to get him started right. It will make your life and his much easier. I look forward to more photos and tales of his antics. Enjoy every minute with him.

Yeah, I knew I should have written it out after I hit the enter button. It means "Run Like Heck" (Although most people insert "hell" in there!) Havs love, love, love, to suddenly burst into a crazed session of tearing around the house. It is a blast to watch, and they all seem to do it. It's in their genes! Ha!

Well, we have some friends that we camp with up in Oregon in the summer and they had just bought a new little Coton de Tulear puppy last summer when we saw them and my wife fell absolutely in love with him and his name is Gandalf after the Lord of the Rings. She could never pronounce the name Gandalf so always keep pestering me that someday she wanted a "Gandorf" (with the orfff), so we contacted our friends after getting him and asked them if they minded if we named him Gandorf and they said "sure". So his registered name will be Daryl's Gandorf Gandy, after our disabled sons name Daryl and Gandy came from his Sire whos name was Dandy Daisy Warrior Jamey and also short for Gandolf. We could never find a Coton that was the colors of Gandorf so we chose the Havanese instead and to us they don't look a whole lot different.

Great story for the name. You're right, the Hav and the Coton do look very similar. My Tess is a Havanese and Cody is a Coton. Most people can't tell them apart (until they get to know them.) There are a few forum members that have both.
