Can a Hav really be THAT sneaky?

I can't believe what I just saw. I am wondering if it is even possible for a Hav, or any dog, to be SO sneaky on purpose!

I gave the boys a new toy (a plush ball) and Lincoln, for once, got it first. He hid with it in the toy hut so he could enjoy it. Scout had a temper tantrum all around the outside of the toy hut, but eventually saw that it wasn't working.

Lincoln then came out to enjoy the new toy on his bed. Scout lay down just in front of him, waiting for his turn, which wasn't coming.

Scout then ran out the dog door and barked like crazy at something. Lincoln dropped the toy and ran outside to see what the commotion was about. Immediately, Scout ran in the dog door and grabbed the toy.

I SWEAR it really looked like he did that on purpose. There wasn't anything that I saw that he could be barking at. He is a sneaky boy!

Is this kind of premeditated deception even possible for a dog??? Poor Lincoln - he was duped.

OMG, these Havs never cease to amaze me. I've seen Shelby do similar things to Kodi.

Jane - that is hilarious! I totally believe Scout knew what he was doing. Hee Hee I would have loved to have seen that!

I haven't seen Buttons do anything like that (yet), but when my dog Trixie was still around I saw her trick my mom's dog in order to steal her food!

Jane, how funny,...and CLEVER! I've read of this happening a time or two on the Forum. It is hard to believe that a dog could be so capable of planning, but it sure sounds like that's what it was!

You'd better keep an eye on those two!

Ha ha ha-- I loved your title Jane, because I knew I was in for a good story...
I truly believe they are that smart. Jasper has done this to Cash many times...In most things Jasper is more like Lincoln...but when it comes to smarts he sounds like Scout.

Usually Cash gets everything and Jasper doesn't really care...but every now and then Jasper decides he really wants what Cash is chewing on...so he goes and finds a toy (Jasper does not like toys) and lies down right in front of where Cash is chewing...Cash of course wants whatever Jasper has... so like Scout, he leaves his chew, gets in Jaspers face and whines, and grunts, Jasper then drops the toy and races for the chew. He has done this enough times that I know it is pre-meditated...

Poor Lincoln. I bet he won't be duped again.

How funny, Jane. Scout is really smart!

It is quite unbelievable when one sees it the first time. The cute furballs are not so innocent afterall but very SNEAKY! Lizzie does it to Benji all the time when they get their chew treats, and poor guy falls for it everytime. When he realizes that he has been tricked, he gets mad and humps her.

Best, Poornima

I absolutely believe Scout knew that barking outside would make Lincoln drop everything and run.

They really are quick studies! Rico knows that Lucy always wants what he has. I give them both the same treat/biscuit/chew/whatever and Lucy will drop her's and go after his. So now Rico takes his, walks a few feet away, drops it (so the Lucy girl can steal it) and comes back for his own again!

Yes, they can be that sneaky! My Hav girls do that to each other often. It's really funny to watch. Unfortunately, the one who has the desired object falls for the trick 9 times out of 10.
