Angry I knew it when I saw the neighbor's dog, she was trouble.

The neighbor's son bought a Shiba Inu because she was CUTE and then found out his apartment didn't allow dogs. So the dog is stuck at my neighbor's in a crate or confined area for hours. WORST THING EVER FOR THAT BREED.

She escapes and runs amuck. Usually it is just to poop in my backyard. grrr.... But today Harper's hunting drive kicked in. Great fun for her. Not so much for my Jack.

He is fine, just a little bug-eyed. Jack was running flat out in the "She is going to get me!" sprint. She was bouncing along keeping him from the house and safety. I was pissed.

I yelled at the neighbor. Her excuse was "Harper always comes back in 10 or 15 minutes. We ordered a fence but it snowed before we could install it."

No excuse. SHIBA INUS ARE A HUNTING BREED.

TTFN,
Pam

I hear you my neighbors have a Jack Russell and they are constantly forgetting to put batteries in his shock collar. As far as I can tell he hasn't been in my yard because I put a fence in partly due to him, he's aggressive. I had the dogs out walking the other day and he was in the middle of the street just waiting for us Some people are idiots.

Shiba Inu is not a breed I would want around my havanese.
They are nice family dogs but are very protective and need to be controlled. There is one in my neighborhood that I stay away from when I walk Henry. The owner is well-aware and good about crossing the sidewalk.

We lived in Japan for 2.5 years. I know ALL about them. You could not step one inch onto their territory. I am not happy that Harper thinks that our backyard might be her territory.

I hate to consider it but I wonder if an air horn would be a deterrent to scare her off.

Pam

One of our friends own a Shiba Inu. She decided Chewy is part of her family and will actively guard people (including us) from Chewy.

Shiba Inus are beautiful dogs, but they need consistent training and supervision. They aren't dogs to just let wander the neighborhood. I'm glad Jack is OK… it could have so easily gone bad.

I am sure that there are lovely Shiba Inus out there. I have yet to meet one. I am not a fan. sigh.. I just will have to deal with it. I wish that they weren't so cute.

Luckily, Jack is a big Hav. I would say that he weighs the same as Harper but she is taller and faster. I don't think she would have hurt him much. Jack was scared, though.

Pam

Is the apartment complex aware that this person is keeping a dog in a crate against the rules? That is no life for a dog no matter what the breed--could you contact animal control, especially if the dog is getting loose and coming on your property? In our area, that would be enough for animal control to get involved.

The dog needs to be rehomed IMHO.

The son shoved the dog off on his mom who is my neighbor. She has a house with a big yard that is kitty-cornered to mine. There is a brook, wetlands and little stone wall between us. Great for an exploring dog.
