Injury from claw clip

Just wanted to post a warning for those of you who may use claw clips to hold in topknots.

Tori has had a topknot for the better part of her life. I usually use colored bands to hold it in. However, I got a great deal from Pet Edge on some little claw clips. I started using them a lot because they were so much easier to put in than the bands.

Well, we're not exactly sure how this happened (playing w/Rascal, messing w/it herself, etc.) But, somehow she got scratched/cut by the little teeth (sorry my poor little point-and-shoot doesn't show that part very well), then she started rubbing and "messing" with the area and managed to pull out a fair amount of hair and also get it infected.

Poor Tori!

I love those claw clips, but I remove them whenever the dog wearing them is hanging out/playing with another dog because some dogs grab them and pull them out of the hair and chew on them. I hadn't thought of injury to the first dog. I was worried about the second dog swallowing some of the plastic, or worse yet, the spring with the two sharp ends sticking out.

Leslie ~ thanks for posting this info. I use the bands, but have tried the claw clips on Cicero. They just don't work for him...either not enough hair or to fine and silky. I think I will stick with the little color elastic bands. Thanks!!!!

Ouch!!
I hope Tori feels better. I use barrettes to hold Pixie's hair out of her eyes. I never tried the clips-thanks for the warning.

Oh Leslie, I'm so sorry to hear this. Just the other day I was looking at them in the store for Bailey. I had the same thought, that it would be easier, but something made me not buy them. Now, of course, I won't. I'll continue to use the bands.

Poor Tori! Leslie, it is bigger than I thought yikes! I hope it grows back or maybe Tori just wanted to be like Belle with her little spot. They really can be yin yangs with the dots on their head right now. Give her hugs and carrots from me.

Ouch. That looks like it hurt too. I hope it grows back soon. Thanks for the warning. You might want to let the company that makes them know about it too.

Poor baby, I hate having things like that in my own hair. I hope she's feeling better and heals quickly.
