Before and after pictures of severely matted toy breed

I know we all fight mats on our Havs, but this put the battle in perspective for me.

WARNING: the images may be disturbing to you: http://www.hlntv.com/slideshow/2014/...nada?hpt=hp_c3

They are graphic and heart-wrenching. You have been warned.

OMG that is terrible. Glad there is happy ending to Rasta's story. He looks happy running the snow.

So glad that had a happy ending. The poor little thing. I can't imagine what he endured as a stray. He must be feeling so good and free with all those mats gone and a new family to care for him. Sad, but happy too!

I showed it to Ginger and told her "this could happen to you if you don't let us brush you". She responded by running and getting her combs and brushes.

I've seen a few other cases of dogs as badly matted as that... Strays and puppy mill rescues. But no one would ever think that was OK.

A bigger problem, that happens ALL the time is puppies and young dogs in caring pet homes, where the people THINK they are taking good care of the dog, and the dog even looks OK... If you don't put your hands down through the fur. Then you find that although the surface has been brushed over, they are actually matted down to the skin.

Happens ALL the time.

I underestimated your warning and those pictures caught me off guard.

Yes, it sure does happen all the time. I'm a pet sitter so I see this frequently, even more so in long haired cats. I tell people that at this point they need to just get their pet shaved down and start all over but some just don't. It's very heart-breaking...
