Red face I Don't Understand Dog Collars

I can't seem to solve this problem; hopefully someone has this collar. I need a rolled leather collar for Lola, so she doesn't mat around her neck as her hair grows back. She wears a collar and dog tags all the time (so I can hear where she is in the house...little devil). I can't find a collar that has the leash ring on the one side and a ring or buckle to hang the tags on the other side so they will hang down when she's on leash. All the leather collars have the leash ring right next to the buckle.

Maybe the better question is - what am I not getting here? If all the collars are like that, what do people do with the dog tags? Do they go on the leash ring??? And then flap around on the dog's back when they are walking on leash?

Anne, yes, I have the tags on the leash ring. Though Kubrick walks on a loose leash, so it normally hangs at the bottom and not at the top

Anne, I hadn't specifically noticed that before, but now that you mention it, I do think every leather collar I've seen has the little loop up by the buckle. Yes, I think you're right that most people would use the leash ring for tags on a rolled leather collar.

Anne, this has bothered me as well. and I have not found a collar with two rings...but thing about it???? having a ring stick up most of the time on the top of Lola's neck would probably bug you more. We very rarely use a clip on leash but use a martingale style leash/collar all in one. when we take them for walks. We also leave their rolled leather collar and tags on all the time.

Here is a link to a rolled leather Martingale all in one leash I am lusting for...

but here is the less expensive one we use.

Oliver and Comet have their tags on the leash ring as well.
I have seen a little "envelope thing" you can put tags in to keep them quiet.

Sally,((Oliver)) Comet and Pennie too!

I walk Jackson on a harness with his collar and tags on too, so they don't interfere, but his fur can get matted with all the straps. I immediately take them both off in the house, but I did notice that the tags rub against each other and are wearing the color off on one of them.

Missy - that site for collars is beautiful. They have a WishList! Lola has a nylon braided/ribbon collar now (I like the sailboats and have flipflops to match) and I hang her tags on one of the adjustment fittings. Then the leash ring lays flat on her neck back, under the hair. It is easy to find the ring to pop on her leash for a quick zip out the door. If we are going for a long walk I use the Easy Walk harness because she is a puller. "LOOK! BIRDS! LOOK! POOP! LOOK PEOPLE!" The Easy Walk keeps her by my side. I have been trying to get her into loose leash with treats - and last weekend she walked an entire city block on her hind legs, bouncing off me to get a treat.

Kathy - I have gone through several tags for Lola because the engraving wears off when they clang together. I ruined her AKC chip tag. Now I have a bone shape that hangs with the engraving facing Lola's fur, so the unengraved side is taking all the damage.

I guess we'll go with the collars the way they are made. There are so many beautiful leather working sites out there. It will be hard to choose!

I found this beautiful dog collar place that has an ultra-thin rolled leather collar for long haired breeds like our Havs. Pricey, but could really be worth it, especially for those with really long hair.

djangos ring is to the left of the buckle. i buy his collars from C.B. Paws. they are the best. they are out of denver colorado. just google cb paws. their color selection is not great but the collars are amazing beautiful italian leather. they last a good year, i just change them cuz over time the color fades from the sun and they are a little worn but they are amazing. they also have a rolled harness and a rolled leather leash if you like that matchy thing. their website is not great, you need to call, it's the only rolled collar they have in stock.
