Wipeout on Asphalt

It was such a beautiful day in NY yesterday, we took Castro for a long walk and let him off lead in an empty parking lot.

Castro was having the time of his life, doing RLH - until he missed a dip and did a double flip... Poor baby!

He got up, shook it off and gave us the "what just happened?" look. After checking him out, we made our way home.

I did notice that his bum hole was red - and i mean RED - I guess he got asphalt burn. The redness went down after his bath, and we were just observing him all afternoon.

I think he is a bit sore and hurt from the accident. He couldn't seem to get comfortable - he would from the bed, to the sofa, to the ottoman, to the floor, then back to my side, then back to the floor...

I also noticed that he started licking his bum a lot.. I am looked at his bum, and it does look a little raw, but not red anymore..

Any suggestions on what I can put on his bum to sooth it?

Poor Castro. I'd probably run him to the vet just to make sure all is well. I don't know of a salve for him. I know my vet says that Neosporin is fine to use as long as they don't lick it off.

I would say neosporin - or how about the old standby - A&D ointment?

Poor baby butt!!

Oh poor Castro! I would run him by the vet - or just call him - to ask and see what they recommend. Hope he feels better soon!

thanks, all.. I already have a call into his vet to see what he recommends.

he is under daddy's care right now; Bryant said Castro was running in around the house before they walked to the train. He's crashed under Bryant's chair in the office right now...

Do you happen to have contact with an animal chirpractor? We have horses and a couple of our vets are also chiro's, they work on both dogs and horses. I've had them check out Pepper 3 times after minor events. They've found some things, made some adjustments and I saw good changes in his mood and movement afterwards. It might be worth it to get him checked out after his flip fall and then you have a contact for the future as well.
