Maybe I LIKE coyotes...

I think I'm getting a new kitchen. It happened like this. After the most recent news about the little dog getting killed, and our conversation here, and even though Kodi is closely supervised outside, I told Dave I'd had enough, and we were going to fence the back yard. (It would also keep the ****ed deer out of my gardens, but I didn't mention that part) I had a great plan to put a gate on the people-steps to the back porch (which go out to the driveway, not the yard) and then make a Kodi-sized doorway in the porch railing, with a ramp for him to go down into the back yard. Dave HATED the idea.

The conversation went something like this:

"I don't want to deal with a gate every time I come up onto the porch."

"It only needs to be closed when Kodi is outside."

"If we're going to fence the back yard, let's put a deck on the back of the house and a slider out of the kitchen."

"But the kitchen table is right in front of where the doors would go, and besides, I like french doors better."

"We can get a smaller table."

"If we're going to rip the wall apart, we might as well put in a peninsula with a breakfast bar and get rid of the table."

"Then we might as well do the whole kitchen."

Boy, is this little dog expensive.

Excellent remodel. I'll vote for it since I'm not paying for it!

"If you give a mouse a cookie...." or I should say, "If you give a Kodi a treat.."

See, that's exactly why NOTHING ever gets done at my house. My husband calls it the "you might as wells". As in "if you're going to do "A", you might as well do "B" and then you might as well do "C" and "D" while you have everything torn up. But of course doing it all costs too much so let's just forget it.

I want to put in in ground sprinklers after seeing what our lawn looks like. DH says, "No, it costs too much." Well, how much does it cost? "I don't know." So how do you know it's too much? "I just know."

Ha! I don't want the grass to grow any faster... As it is, i have trouble getting one of the guys to mow it. But I DID have a drip watering system put into the gardens all around the house, and plan to expand it to the perenial island beds this spring. I LOVE not having to worry about watering the gardens!!!

... And I sure HOPE Dave doesn't back out on the kitchen! I don't think he will. It's the last part of our old house that has never been redone, and we know that especially with the kithcen, when the time comes to sell. It will really help to be updated. We might as well be able to enjoy it!

I am so lucky to live in a coyote free zone (well, country); they do sound terrifying. We only have foxes and the only real thing to worry about with them is mange, but I've never actually heard of a dog catching mange from a fox, at least around here.

A propos kitchens and getting things done: Years ago I worked with a rather notorious film director called Otto Preminger (I loved Otto, but not many did - we were friends for twenty years after that, till he died); the way to get Otto to do anything was to sit down very seriously with him and say "Mr Preminger, you know that wonderful idea you had about how we should play this particular scene, you know, the thing you said yesterday that I ignored and didn't get? Well, I've been thinking about it, and of course you are totally right, that's exactly how it should be...."; and he fell for it every time, always something he'd never even mentioned or probably thought of!! It's a technique I've perfected over the years, particularly with family!!! Perfect positive reinforcement, don't even need a clicker....

How Exciting!! re-modeling is like opening a can of worms. You do one thing and it just leads to all sorts of stuff.

Wow, Karen, that sounds great! I'm in favor of the French doors rather than the slider too. Don't think a slider would look good in your house. Just think, you'll finally have the BIG sink for Kodi!!! The sink alone is worth doing the kitchen over. Right? Love to see the transformation when we head that way.
