Nike can count!
I'm sleeping in the nursery with Blanchi and Nike. Blanchi has a little boy who was half the weight of his largest Brother at birth, and we didn't want him to get pushed aside, and miss a meal. The little boy is don't great, and gaining as much weight each day as his siblings.
There are the two whelping boxes in the room that the pups spend the first three weeks in. Blanchi and Nike are not only Mother and Daughter, but also BFF. They go in and out of each others boxes checking on the puppies.
Sometime early in the morning last night, Nike came over between my bed on the floor and Blanchi's box wanting to get in. Blanchi was going to have none of it, and told Nike in no uncertain terms that she was to stay out of her box.
I got up to see if I could figure out what the commotion was about, and went over to check Nike's box. There were only three puppies in it. She thought Blanchi had taken it, so I checked Blanchi's box, but there were only her puppies in it.
Over by Nike's box there is a fleece blanket that she likes to curl up on right outside her box. The missing puppy was under the edge of that against the wall, sound asleep with a full tummy. I put it back in Nike's box. She looked in, saw that they were all there, and jumped back in and laid down with them.
All was back to normal. I'm sure she thought Blanchi had stolen one of her puppies. The one outside the box was probably latched on with enough suction that it got drug out of the box when Nike jumped out.
