I thought I'd have a heart attack

I let the boys out for their last time tonight and finished a few things upstairs. When I went to the door to let them in, they didn't come. Sometimes that happens so I didn't take it too seriously. I went back inside and waiting about another 10 minutes and tried again. Still no response to my calls and taps on the window (which normally brings them running).

I started to get an uneasy feeling and went in to get my coat and shoes. Suddenly I noticed a section of my fence was down. We've had strong winds for a few days now and I guess it weakened the fence without my noticing. Needless to say, I panicked. I ran out and started calling their names. Nothing! I went into my neighbor's yard and called their names. Nothing! I began to have nightmare visions of their being gone and never seeing them again . . . or worse, their getting out into the (busy) street and getting hit by a car.

I was frantic. After walking the street and calling and calling I walked back to the house, not knowing what to do next. It was 11:00 and dark. As I approached and called again I heard whimpering behind someone's fence. I didn't know whose. Resisting the urge to open my gate and risking their getting out into the street, I went back upstairs and then to the back where miraculously they both greeted me at the door.

I think I lost 10 years of my life tonight and am praying I can get my handyman to come over tomorrow to fix it. It's my worst nightmare. I hope I can sleep tonight. The boys, on the other hand are all tuckered out and sleeping peacefully at my side.

What a heart stopper! Now I don't know if I'll be able to sleep.

So glad that everything worked out and they appeared unharmed. Although it does make you wonder what kind of mischief they were into?

Oh Geri, that made me sick to my stomach reading that. I know that feeling all too well. The wind has been kicking open my gate - I've gotten obsessive about checking to make sure it's closed. I'm so glad Milo & Bailey are okay, now you need to relax so you're okay!

Oh Geri, I too have known that feeling all to well. And you just get an over whelming feeling of helplessness. I am so glad Milo & Bailey are back in their home safe and sound. Now it is time for you to relax as your boys are there with you

I'm relaxing in bed, trying to calm down but I still feel like I can't breathe. I can't imagine the horror if anything happened to them.

I had a scare liike this in the last month so I know the feelings and am so glad your boys returned. I just happened to have gotten a silent whistle, althought I hear it, and had been using it to get them to come. I pulled a few plants from the yard and looked and no dogs which had never happened before. They never run off. I called, no dogs.

I hurried in the house and got the whstle and started blowing it. I was walking and blowing and turned around and there they were. They had run down the street, I latter surmised because shortly after this, I left in the car and discovered my neighbor's two Westies in the street so I stopped & took them to my neighbor who did not know that they were out. I think my two saw the Westies and went to investigate. We live on a dead end but where my two went and the Westies live is busier. Grateful to be sure!!!

I stopped breathing as I was just reading it....oh, I am so glad they came home. I know that feeling and it is just a horrible feeling, I avoid it at all cost.
Give them both a hug from me, glad they are home safe with you.

OMG, poor you. Thank goodness they found their way back, I could cry just thinking a little longer about what possibly *could* have happened. But I'm learning to see it as 'hey, *nothing* happened, end of story'. Don't worry anymore, you now know there's an angel watching over them

It's funny. When it was all over, just a little while ago I started to cry. The thought of "what if" was too terrifying to contemplate. I agree with you Maryam, they did have an angel watching over them . . . this time.
