Pet store puppies...

I'm having a "discussion" with a gentleman on another forum about Pet shop Puppies...he's planning on opening a pet store in the Seattle area in the next year or two and wants to sell puppies.
He even has a wholesale license to purchase them *roll eyes*
Anyway...he's seems to think that pet store puppies come from "Reputable" breeders and he's starting to drive me a little batty... I think that he's looking for a fight but I'm really trying to be nice..lol
He has a dog that he bought from a pet store that has "champion lines on both sides" and seems to think that this means that his dog is from a good breeder...
From what I know of "reputable" breeder's they would NEVER sell their dogs to a pet store if they really cared about their dogs...right??
I know that I had to go through an application and screening process and that I signed a contract stating that Todd would never be released to a pet store, shelter, rescue or owner...he is to be returned to the breeder if I can't care for him.
So, have you ever heard of a good breeder selling their puppies to a pet store?

Not me-----

I just can not imagine a reputable breeder doing this.

Maybe instead of letting him argue breeder rep, you could have a business discussion with him instead -
1. There are a large number of dog owners in the Seattle area who will not spend a dime at a pet store that sells puppies. This will limit his profit unnecessarily.
2. The Seattle Humane Society is willing to bring Max, the petmobile, full of orphan dogs looking for homes, to his store. If he contacts them, 425-641-0080, he can find out all about the great service they provide and how it can make him look like a hero instead of a heel in our pet community.

Most breed clubs make you sign an agreement to their Code of Ethics which forbids you to sell to pet stores or any commercial entities. Here is a write-up in regard to puppy mills, BYBs, and pet stores: http://www.spotsociety.org/breeder.htm

And lots of stores will work with rescue too, the one where I buy food does a Lab rescue/adoption every other weekend but they don't sell puppies. Perhaps he could pair up with a local rescue to help find homes for abandoned dogs.
