Sadie paws to get your attention. She usually has a toy in her mouth & of course she looks adorable because she looks like she is grinning with the toy or bone in her mouth BUT obviously her toenails hurt. She may paw your leg, OUCH or if sitting, she paws your shoulder.

She does not do if so much with me but she drives others crazy. I would grab her paw and say no paw or push down on her head and say it until she did not do it.

This is obviously not working as she still does it with others. Sometimes she holds her paw in mid air as she knows something is wrong but she is not getting it. HELP PLEASE!

At Tess' obedience class last night the instructor was saying that any attention, even negative (holding her paw, telling her no, etc.) is reinforcing the behavior. You think you're showing her you don't like the behavior. She just knows that when she paws at someone, she gets attention, which is what she wanted. For a situation like you're dealing with she was saying you should ignore Sadie when she is doing the pawing and then when she stops you need to praise her (and give her a treat if possible).

(Of course, I can't get Cody to stop lunging for big dogs or barking at them, so you need to take anything I say with a grain of salt.)

I would stand up and turn my back on her. This is the ONLY thing that's working with Scooter, if I could just get my kids to do it too.

Ignoring works really well with Dexter.

I must admit it takes a lot of playing and running to wear a pup out, so they nap really good.

Daisy only does this when she has a chew bone. I think she is showing you like how hunting dogs bring back their prey. And cats bring you rats.

I didn't just get havanese, I got a lifestyle!
