Hello there everyone. My name is Laura & I live in VA. I have been in search of a Havanese for several months now, but have been unable to find one close to us (we want to be able to visit the breeders home, met the puppy, etc...) that is multi colored, as of yet. Actually, I take that back. We found the perfect puppy from a wonderful breeder, that we may still end up going to, but after several calls, many emails and a three hour home visit, she informed us that her sister, who had 1st pick of the litter had decided on the same puppy that we wanted, so we couldn't have him. My husband was mad....but I think more hurt. You know how men are....they would rather say they are mad then to say they are hurt. This puppy was so perfect and had really captured my husbands heart. He was beautiful, calm, peaceful, played so nicely with both of my daughters and when they picked him up he just layed there in each of their laps and loved on them so sweetly. I wonder sometimes if he will be open to other puppies without comparing them all to him. Kinda like he dated Angelina Jolie, got dumped and then marry me. HaHaHa Any advise or thoughts.....?

Welcome Laura, I'm sorry that puppy didn't work out for you but the right one will come along. Do you think if your husband visited with some of the other puppies he would be interested? Or does he need some time to get over "Angelina" before he can consider a new love?

I thought I needed to hold out for the perfect color, also. But just this minute Cooper (in his sleep) snuggled closer to me. That beats color any time.

Encourage your husband to check out the puppies one more time. This time see which puppy captures your heart. That's your Angelina!

Janan, that is a very good response, spoken from experience.

Welcome to the forum. I waited two years for Racquet and just as I was about to wait another year I thought I would peek on a site in Canada, and thru a referral from another breeder I found Racquet the day she decided
to sell him as he was the last one of the litter. I believe in fate ...
You will find the perfect puppy.

I have been looking for a Havanese puppy for 6-7 months. We also experienced something similar to your situation. I t was frustrating, sad and I felt a lose even though the puppy was not ours.

During our journey of buying a Havanese, I learned that many times one buys a puppy before it is born, or shortly after the birth. It is not like 15 years ago where one would observe the puppy in a litter to choose the most curious or playful puppy.

I have found that the breeders may keep 1 or more puppies for potential show (future litters); or a puppy is committed to the sire/co-owner or they may prefer to sell to people who will show their puppies. This limits the choices for potential pet owners.

Fortunately, we were able to buy a pet puppy from a breeder when she was a few days old. We were able to see her when she was 3 weeks old. She is precious, special and we fell in love with her. Of course, we took many pictures. She is now 5 weeks old and we still have to wait a long 4- 6 weeks.

I discovered this forum and found it to be very friendly and informative consisting of supportive breeders and pet owners. So I truly hope the above comments do not offend the breeders.

Continue your search and you will find your special puppy.
